Dan Carter: 17 points for NZ

New Zealand eased to a comfortable 22-0 win over Australia in Auckland on Saturday, which sees the hosts retain the Bledisloe Cup.

The All Blacks once again underlined their status as world champions by keeping their trans-Tasman rivals scoreless for the first time since 1962.

Last week's victory was built largely on a dominant first-half performance, this time the home side came out firing after the break after leading 9-0 at half-time.

Once again the All Blacks dominated their Australian counterparts in general play, which saw them thrive with ball in hand. But despite this ascendancy, the hosts failed to convert pressure into more than one five-pointer being scored due to a couple of knock-ons at key moments.

As a result, Dan Carter kept the scoreboard ticking over thanks to another 17-point haul from the talismatic All Blacks pivot who punished mistakes made by the ill-discliplined Wallabies as the hosts came at them.

The Wallabies enjoyed a good start to the match, and looked a far better unit than the one on display in Sydney as they kept New Zealand scoreless for 25 minutes. But a yellow card shown to stand-in skipper Will Genia 10 minutes before the break arguably was the start of Australia's downfall, as the All Blacks kicked into gear and gained control of the match.

Robbie Deans' record against the All Blacks now reads three wins from 17 fixtures. And with yet another Bledisloe out of reach and their points-less Rugby Championship campaign on life support, the pressure on the Wallabies' coach is sure to intensify.

New Zealand had the best chances to score during the opening exchanges, with only a superb cover tackle from Adam Ashley-Cooper denying Israel Dagg, while Liam Messam was held up over the line thanks to some superb work from lock Sitaleki Timani.

After missing an early first penalty attempt, Carter finally moved the All Blacks into the lead after 25 minutes and added his second three-pointer from the resulting penalty when Genia was given his marching orders.

The visitors, though, did well to restrict the All Blacks - who now had a one-man advantage - to only one more Carter penalty before the interval as Berrick Barnes took over scrum-half duties.

With the game still anyone's for the taking at half-time, Carter landed his fourth successful kick of the match with a monster 51m effort two minutes into the second half.

And the game was effectively put out of sight soon as New Zealand went through the phases before quick ball from Aaron Smith found a superb running line of Dagg for the full-back to score his second try in as many weeks.

Carter converted and then added another penalty to move New Zealand 22-0 in front.

Australia finally had their best spell and they thought they had found a way through but a desperate tackle from Kieran Read denied Barnes. From there the All Blacks reassumed their dominance, with replacement Ben Smith and Dagg both having good breaks - while Read lost the ball reaching for the line.

The hosts coughed up another couple of chances when Richie McCaw dropped the ball trying to spin over after Hosea Gear had been held up, while Carter passed to no one when it looked easier to score.

But at that stage of the game, it really didn't matter as the one-sided result kept the Kiwis unbeaten after two matches in the Rugby Championship whilst the Bledisloe Cup stays in New Zealand for the 10th consecutive season.

Man of the match: Dan Carter once again played a starring role with the boot whilst Sonny Bill Williams played a key role on attack. But we're going to give this to Kieran Read - the number eight had a quiet first forty, but was sublime on attack, defence and everything else in between after the break.

Moment of the match: 13 points in the opening eight minutes of the second half saw New Zealand take the game by the scruff of the neck, and the Kiwis didn't look back.

Villain of the match: Oh, Will Genia... so gracious in defeat after the match, but forced to hang his head in shame for the brain implosion suffered during it.

The scorers:

For New Zealand:
Try: Dagg
Con: Carter
Pen: Carter 5

Yellow card: Genia, 29th min (Australia, professional foul)

New Zealand: 15 Israel Dagg, 14 Cory Jane, 13 Ma'a Nonu, 12 Sonny Bill Williams, 11 Hosea Gear, 10 Daniel Carter, 9 Aaron Smith, 8 Kieran Read, 7 Richie McCaw (c), 6 Liam Messam, 5 Samuel Whitelock, 4 Luke Romano, 3 Owen Franks, 2 Keven Mealamu, 1 Wyatt Crockett.
Replacements: 16 Andrew Hore, 17 Ben Franks, 18 Brodie Retallick, 19 Victor Vito, 20 Piri Weepu, 21 Aaron Cruden, 22 Ben Smith.

Australia: 15 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 14 Drew Mitchell, 13 Rob Horne, 12 Berrick Barnes, 11 Digby Ioane, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Will Genia (c), 8 Scott Higginbotham, 7 Michael Hooper, 6 Dave Dennis, 5 Nathan Sharpe, 4 Sitaleki Timani, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Stephen Moore, 1 Benn Robinson.
Replacements: 16 Saia Fainga'a, 17 James Slipper, 18 Radike Samo, 19 Liam Gill, 20 Nick Phipps, 21 Anthony Fainga'a, 22 Kurtley Beale.

Referee: Nigel Owens (Wales)

The referees are not penalising NZ? Get a life and read the rules. Those in the Bleatingish Isles are severely handicapped by their commentators, most of whom do not which way is up. The OZ commentators are fun to listen to and obviously their humour goes over the heads of most commenting here. The commentators from RSA are NZL knowledgeable and FAIR. R McCaw has a greater knowledge of the rules than any international official. He scored higher than any referee on the rules exam.

Unless the next TV rights deal gives ARU a significant increase in revenue, Australia's depth issue, which has been obvious for some time now (hell even the master baiter now admits it) is only going to get worse as the cashed-up League & Aus. Football codes squeeze Union out.

League's new deal is $1Bn over 5 years, they have plans for 2 more clubs (18 in all) each with a $7Mn salary cap (c.f. $4.5Mn for S15 this year) & the top 15 - 20 NSW & Quennsland-eligible players could be up for an extra $120 - 150K for the annual State of Origin series.

AFL have already used their extra revenue (last deal $1.25Bn over 5 years) to expand into Sydney's West & the Gold Coast, buying high-profile leaguies as marquee players for each new club. They also pour resources into their schools program & have far more free-to-air coverage than league, ditto column inches in all the major newspapers & articles on all the sports websites.

Even cash-strapped Football Australia has managed to make a mostly taxpayer-funded expansion into western Sydney & maintain (if barely just) a truly national comp, something ARU only managed for 1 season...

Plenty of people over here are saying ARU needs to go out & buy players and/or coaches from league but the reality is that no-one of any standing has switched to Union since the mid-2000's & those who did (Sailor, Tuqiri, Rogers, Gasnier etc) switched back as soon as the money started to dry up.

Not sure what the answer is but whoever takes over from possumhead in a few months has certainly got a job in front of him.

As far as I can tell, NZ won this in "the top two inches" i.e. using their brains. the Aus players looked bemused and confused, clueless and shapeless. Who's to blame? All of them. From Dingo to the waterboys.

Injures prevented Reds and Australia from putting out the same sides to defend titles. Not an excuse, just a fact. Yes, we do not have the depth like you but have always, and will continue to punch above our weight. (one day we might even have a national comp) A good coach (like the Link, Reds trashed the Chiefs this year !!!) would at least have made changes on Sat during the game to attack through different channels.

Congrats on your success, if it was any other team in the world I would be gutted, but losing to the best is no biggy. Good luck against the Saffas and Arggies.

Could the Red's back up - no, could the Wannabies back up - no.

The only reason why the fat lady is not already singing is that she feels there is no need to waste her voice, because it is over. As for your "what if scenerio" I pretty much agree with 2EyedKiwi's replacements they should be good enough to get the job done. Cattle Trinats, cattle it helps to have the depth and the Wannabies just ain't got it.

@Trinats11, I figured your random excuse generater wouldn't be out of action for too long...

Regarding "...IF, NZ lose McCaw, Mealamu, Read, Ma'a Nonu, Dagg all to injures then had Carter come back for his first INT game after a ten month layoff and Janes's first game since April...". No problem at all when your have "depth" (google it). Kane or Todd for McCaw, Hore for Mealamu, Vito for Read, C. Smith for Nonu (Nonu only there due to Smiths injury), Taylor or B. Smith for Dagg (remembering Muliaina is injured), and Carter could take 10yrs off and still make Cooper look like the greenhorn that he is. As for Jane, last week was his first game back form injury, but I'm sure Savea or Guilford could have adequately covered.

trinats - the sydney morning herald claims oz players were queuing for autographs from sbw after the game. i think they were joking.

the next big stat is possibly in october, on 99 not out - a chance for the abs 100th victory over australia. but that's a long way off, a pointless match (get it, pointless !!, hilarious 22-0) and with the bc well and truly secure in nz .

Well done NZ. It was a heartbreaking game to watch, unfortunately we were taught a lesson in rugby. Not much to say in defence of Australia's dismal performance.

IMHO Barnes is a much more solid flyhalf than showcase Cooper.

Hell the worlds 2nd best team is in a bit of a funk at the moment! give them a break peep's it happens to most teams...I still cringe a little thinking of the Pants'ing we got from SA in 09. Oz will bounce bank they are too good a team not too. They still have a few more games to atleast restore some pride so lets not right them off. They did defend stoically so I can give Kudo's in that regard. But with said injuries they appear to be a bit rudderless..it goes to show you can have the best attacking players in the world but if they aint playing to script it just not executing the basics right! it is all for naught. Some posters need to stop inventing EXCUSES & give credit where credit is deserved do you see your beloved wallabies walking off the field blaming referee's,offside,cheating...etc etc..thats just plain weak! IF these attacks are the theme of your posting I believe you reveal at lot more about your character rather than your rugby nou's (SAD). Keep it positive & constructive. I support the AB's but i firmly believe we wouldnt be half the team if we didnt regularly play you lot. Cheers

Nigel Owens was All Black best player, like in the world cup. Owens have been killing the spirit of the game during the last 10 years, with IRB consent. He installed the law that the game winner could be decided by the referee.

Kiwis are better than the Aussies, and they don't need Owens helps.

But unfortunately Owens gives AB a few seconds more to play the ball after a tackle, or to released the players after a tackle. Even they don't need to roll after a tackle, they are allowed to stay there. They can used the 180 degrees to entered to the ruck, and off sides for them, is not the last feet of the ruck/maul, but the last opponent in them.

Many advantages at this levels

@Ferdie thanks for that I missed Moore's comments. Yes I am afraid that if any Oz supporter blames Deans for the kicking game they are obviously as stupid as the Wannabies who plainly did not listen to their coach - that of course could be part of the plan to get rid of Deans - but not being a conspiracy peddler myself I tend to think the players are just a little dim witted.

@Ramage re the Fox commentators there seems to be a trend in Oz rugby dismal performances by their commentators and referees seems to have rubbed off in the Wannabies themselves. Having the red button to change commentators was a great innovation I am not sure why Foxtel did not continue with it. There will always be some bias in "home" commentary teams, although Justin Marshall seems to go out of his way to lean to the visitors, but the Oz Fox team are beyond belief and you can understand a little why someone like Trinats, who has probably never had an original thought in his life, is easily swayed by their inane views.

We could still back up !!! not over until the fat lady sings (I know she is on the stage with mic in hand) but IF and a HUGE IF, NZ lose McCaw, Mealamu, Read, Ma'a Nonu, Dagg all to injures then had Carter come back for his first INT game after a ten month layoff and Janes's first game since April, (same injuries in positions as Aus have had !!!) they would find it tough against SA or even ARG !!! (never mind an away fixture) Even if you just missed MaCaw as captain it would be tough, and he is only the 2nd ranked No.7 in the world imagine the loss if he was No.1 !!!

Oh and throw in there Aaron Smith getting a sin bin !!!

On reflection, Wallabies did a fantastic Job to just allow one try from the world champions, in their own back yard !!!

Cmon Trinuts even you must admit that the Foxtel commentators are the biggest no hopers and biased ones ion air. all Kearns can do is sit and call every team playing Australia as being offside. Never does he mention that aybe the Wallabies might be offside. I even heard him say that Nigel Owens was having a shocker. The whole pre game build up was about Cooper and how he could stop the rot. Time and again with Cuckoo Martin leading the fan club you could virtually see them clutching at straws. Take a reality check mate your commentators like your referees and sadly now your players are hopeless. It remains to be seen how hopeless at Patterson Stadium in Perth on Sat Sep 8. has the rot set in or can the Wallabies rescue their situation that game will tell just where the Wallabies are. I for one hope they can rise and challenge the Boks and who knows maybe even pull off a win. Is it true Bryce has been asked to fill in for this match as Owens has been declared by Kearns as not up to the job.

Yes and I think to his credit Justin Marshall goes out of his way to be fair to the opposing teams.

I also think that the commentators of the SA Argentine match that we heard in the UK were very fair.

@Sandal 7/31 translated means the Wannabies have won 7 from the last 31 matches played. originally posted for Trinats a few months ago when he was telling the world how the Tri-Nations 2011 winners would back up by taking the Rugby Championship. He has gone back into his box a little bit now but I think it is best to just give him that reality check.

In all Honesty the wallabies did nothing....saying they defended well is kind of a moot point...the object is to win...you can do the same in soccer...have all 11 of your player in your own box and the other team will most likely not score or score very few...BUT you are NEVER going to score at the other end...this is just damage limitation stuff...And that's all we did!!

Australia defended all day..NOTHING else and they still leaked 22 points...if they had tried to attack it would have left SO many holes it would have been a blow out.
