Ross Rennie: Scored Edinburgh's only try

Edinburgh registered a deserved 22-11 win over Treviso in their RaboDirect PRO12 match at the Stadio Monigo on Saturday.

The first quarter was punctuated by penalties from both sides. Harry Leonard was on the mark for Edinbrgh but the slender advantage lasted a matter of minutes with the illustrious Kris Burton getting Treviso back on level terms.

A second Leonard penalty just before the half-hour mark edged the Scots back in front but they were pegged back on the half-time when Ludovico Nitoglia crossed for what would prove to be the host's only try.

The conversion was missed but Nitoglia's try gave Treviso an 8-6 advantage that they looked like taking with them into the interval.

But a third penalty of the afternoon seconds shy of the hooter gave Edinburgh an unlikely lead.

That advantage was never likely to be decisive but it was enough for the visitors to build on and the second half would belong to them.

Another penalty from Leonard six minutes in put Edinburgh four in front and Burton's response for Treviso just before the hour was cancelled out by another booted effort from Leonard.

That set the stage for the Scots to grab the final score.

It came with little over ten minutes remaining through a try from Ross Rennie. Leonard's successful conversion put Edinburgh 11 up and there'd be no way back for the hosts.

Edinburgh will be buoyed by their triumph, having tasted defeat against Leinster and Scarlets on their two previous outings.
