Former All Blacks and Cardiff Blues full-back Ben Blair looks set for premature retirement due to continuing knee problems.
Blair, who won four caps for the All Blacks, was French club Agen's star signing during the off-season. However, all indications are that he will never wear the SUALG jersey after manager Philippe Sella told a press conference that the cartilage problems in 33-year-old's right knee have not improved and his contract would be terminated.
"He had a visit with the doctor, it's classic procedure in a separation," said Sella.
"He followed an intensive programme at the Médipôle de Toulouse but we haven't had very good feedback, nothing to be optimistic about.
"It's sad as it signifies the end of his career."
Blair spent six seasons with the Blues after joining in June 2006 from Canterbury but was troubled by a knee injury suffered during a Heineken Cup match at Castres in 2010 which ruled him out for 15 months.
