Jones blasts "arrogant" England

Eddie Jones Suntory coach 2011

Critical: Eddie Jones

Japan coach Eddie Jones has criticised Manu Tuilagi and England for the Leicester centre's celebration after scoring against New Zealand.

Tuilagi appeared to slow down as he neared the line after intercepting a pass from Kieran Read, with Jones regarding it as a mark of disrespect towards the world champions.

"England are still very young," Jones told The Daily Star.

"If they can keep it together and go on and pick up 600-odd caps then they could potentially have a very good team.

"But there were already signs of arrogance at the weekend with their centre [Tuilagi] walking over the line."

"That's disrespectful to the world champions - and if they don't control that kind of thing they will not go forward as a team."

"You don't want to see that sort of thing creep into the game because it's not good for rugby.

"It doesn't wind up other teams but the game of rugby is about respect - and that's one thing we simply must keep in the game."

"New Zealand have scored numerous points against numerous teams and you never see any of their players do that. They run hard and try to get under the posts to make the kick as easy as possible.

"So why didn't the England boy do that? That's what the game is about. It's very important to keep a tight lid on that kind of attitude.

"The only guy I really know in the England management is Andy Farrell and I know he certainly will not tolerate that sort of thing. He'll be disappointed by what Tuilagi did."

Eddie Jones is and always has been an idiot...

Having said that, naming the article Jones blasts "arrogant" England is even more idiotic than his comments.

He clearly believes that Tuilagi was being disrespectful, although as he is an idiot I do not take his opinions seriously and neither should anyone else.

Tuilagi was knackered and saving energy, it looked strange in a 15s match but happens every 7s tournament.

Anyone who believes any different - Grow Up!

If England is arrogant, I dont want to hear Jones opinion about the Natal Sharks!!

In all fairness a storm in a tea cup. Jones is still bitter after he lost to England in the final.

@jonesy2 you are why Australians are hated. Your comment makes no sense either because England have actually been able to beat NZ this year unlike you convicts so they have achieved something. BTW Australia have been average since 2000 so its a little hypocritical too

I feel differently about the Tuilagi try than the Ashton try. Ashton is Ashton. He plays with his heart on his sleeve and several coaches have tried to reign him in but he clearly takes joy in his tries and hence "the ash splash". I think it will cost him a try or injury one of these days but that's his choice because at least he always pins back his ears and goes hard to the line and at least cuts an angle to the posts.

Manu on the other hand, started finger waving and jogging 20 meters out and worst of all if he had continued hard to the line he could have touched down under the posts. That's my annoyance; he could have cost his team 2 points against the world champions with laziness and arrogance. I am all for a minor celebration but first get the ball down as close to the posts as possible.

If ashton gets diving like that he will lose the ball or cause an injury , he's a fool if he keeps that up .. England deserved to win the game for the played the best and for once everything they did clicked . IT will be interesting to see when they play next time if the same result happens or england get bought back to earth eh?

Come on Eddie, the world needs arrogant Poms. Otherwise who would we have to laugh at when they get absolutely smashed by their Colonial underlings at the very sports they created?

Oh come. I was there - almost weeping with pleasure. Yes we - sorry, England - beat the All Blacks at their own game - in spades! And yes, they beat the all time great All Blacks. But arrogant? Don't let your (grudging perhaps?) recognition of the achievements of a truly great sporting side make you jealous. I really do not think they are arrogant - but I most certainly delighted that England won in such style (except for Tuilagi's graceless disrespect) & that I was there to see it.

Bit of a storm in a tea cup really... I mean I didn't have my stop watch out timing Manu, so I really didn't notice much of anything out of order. I was too busy facing the unfamiliar realisation of defeat!

to be fair i concur with those saying who cares. i just realised that gits was the first one to do the swan dive thing that ashton stole and now does whenever he scores a try once every few years

I think there is probably a little bit of arrogance that runs through every international and international team - they are, after all, the best players in their respective countries and you don't get there by being a wallflower!

I actually think that NZ suffer this less than most and that SA and Aus have more than most! England probably sit somewhere in the middle. Ashton does what he does - so what? One day he might drop the ball - but then again he might not. Tuilagi slowed down - so what. Neither are unique in this.

In my opinion the game was played in a great spirit with two teams playing 100% committed rugby but with a huge amount of respect for each other - it ebbed and flowed and proved that in our great game the absolute best can still be beaten by a team who are not as good when they front up with the right attitude and game plan and are willing to put their bodies on the line! Which can only ever be positive!

Remind me who Eddie Jones is again by the way?

Wow..isn't it amazing how some people can get offended? Rokocoko usually taunts defenders while diving mid-air; Frans Steyn once pointed at an English defender while going to score a try. (Mind you, these guys aren't arrogant..might have been one-off incidents).

Why didn't you bring this issue up back then Mr Jones?

jones is on the money here. you know what makes their arrogance funny? the fact that they have achieved nothing and never will. dont have two decent players to rub together (weird image but the point stands).

I give you ....the RFU. Unfortunately, the arrogance starts at the top, so who can blame the players? Embarrasingly, results on the pitch rarely back it up.
