Quade quits Australian Rugby?

19th November 2012 08:35

Reports on Monday claimed that Reds and Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper has decided to quit Australian Rugby.

According to Channel Nine in Australia, Cooper is frustrated after the ARU failed to offer him a top contract as he considers an extension.

Reports suggest he was upset after only being offered match payments by the ARU, as opposed to an annual sum as part of his contract.

Cooper was suspended for three matches and given a major fine after speaking out on Twitter regarding Australia coach Robbie Deans and describing the national environment as "toxic."

He was fined Aus$40,000 ($41,000), plus a further Aus$20,000 suspended for two years, and given a suspended three-match ban for the comments.

After a code of conduct hearing Cooper apologised for his behaviour, which he admitted fell below Wallabies standards.

He has since been linked with a move either to play rugby union overseas, or to switch codes and convert to rugby league in the NRL, along with a possible shock move into the boxing ring.

Cooper had a great run during 2010 & 2011 winning the title with the Reds in 2011 and culminating with the final ever Tri-Nations match which the Wallabies won to clinch the series at Suncorp. In that game he totally outplayed Dan Carter, but since then he has been a disaster at the World Cup, then picked up a major injury and has been a liability ever since.

Interesting to note that this is the same bloke who a year ago boldly declared that he only ever wanted 1 year contracts as they bought out the best in him, yet now a year later he is whinging about the new contract offered. One year contracts..... great when everything is going well but..............

Also shows what a bad influence his manager is.

The Quadestile will need to find a new venture, such as opening an ebay account for selling second hand electronic goods he "found" or a boofhead drunk tank, in order to show case his life skills

Because he'll certainly be of no use in league as he can't tackle and will last 10 seconds in the ring.

He's a better player than I will ever be (sadly)...but that doesn't make him any good. Would love to see him leave rugby.

Yep Toulon and Racing will be all over this idiot. Muppet will go the way of Henson. Sad thing when ego out performs talent. Sad that like Henson before him he cannot see that he is a large dollop of the poison that would make the environment round him toxic. Yes I am not fully informed but it doesnt have look that this is the case.

Quade your spiritual home is Toulon and I am sure Cian Healy will relish the chance of smashing you every year, for that matter so will most of the rugby playing world

Damn the ARU,and damn Robbie Deans ... as a Reds member I've seen Cooper all season and wanted to see him there again next year; It should be the Reds fans voice thats heard not nerds like Bones7 and kappelange who, like many, all they know of Cooper is what they've read when mummy lets them on the Internet!

Bones, if the NRL doesn't consider SBW's breach of contract a conduct issue then I doubt a few harsh words about their enemy will bother them. Besides, he has perfect NRL credentials - history of theft, cheap shops, and mates who are awaiting trial for assault. The NRL loves the drama

Aust Channel 9 reports he was offered an incentive based contract, receiving only match payments from next season. Still has a high Reds contract, and that NRL clubs could only offer him a steep pay cut to fit him under the salary cap, so either overseas, such as to France, although he would be unable to start until August of 2013, or Japanese rugby (wouldn't that also have to be laet next year?).

Boxing? make me laugh.

Hope its boxing. Hope it's televised. Bit harder to avoid contact in the ring, but his 5 reverse gears will be useful. No doubt he'll get SBW to help him pick opponents...down at the homeless shelter. Still, even so, there is a chance that we'll all get to see him get a whomping....if they can find anybody fast enough to catch up with Quadie in his turbo reverse.

Good buy, I can't say I will miss him. Never proved himself at the highest level and was always a liability in defense.

I'm not surprised at all. It had to happen after the way ARU treated one of its finest players. The problem here is the clown from NZ. R. Deans kicks a hard kick up his arse. The players don't like him and he can't deliver the results. Sad day for Australian rugby.

Please go! Rugby Union and The Wallabies were there before you were born and will still be there long after you are gone.

You're not as good as you think you are and you never will be. Goodbye you one trick pony.

He goes to the NRL and he's going to get dropped, he starts boxing and he's going to get dropped, I wouldn't rule out a move to Europe/Japan, i'm sure Toulon have already got their checkbook and pen out, I would personally love to see him at Bath

Bones7 says...

Why would the ARU give him a decent contract with his conduct? You wouldn't get one in any other industry for making remarks about your employers like that so would should he be an exception? He's lucky they considered extending his contract at all.
