Critical: Steve Diamond

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond admitted his side had been heavily critical after their 48-10 thumping by Leicester Tigers.

The Sharks sit bottom of the Aviva Premiership table with five games to go this season, three points behind closest rivals London Welsh.

Sale's performance away to Leicester was one of their worst of the season, with Diamond labelling it as 'pathetic' and calling on his players to bounce back against Saracens in the LV=Cup on Sunday.

"We've had a sit down and the senior players have approached me this week and they have apologised for their performance and, hopefully, we'll see that resolve itself against Saracens on Sunday," said Diamond to the Manchester Evening News.

"Talk is cheap and we've got to deliver both on the training ground each day and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays whenever it's a match day and last Saturday we didn't earn our wages.

"As professionals they have to play for the cause and there was a lack of that on Saturday. We have to be professional and we have to deliver.

"But we've re-addressed the situation in house and the big thing for us is that we've got a game this weekend to get over the debacle of last weekend and to put it out of our system. It's a big game, it's a semi-final and we need to play well.

"The lads understand that and they have said to the coaching staff they want to put it right.

"A win on Sunday would not only put us into the final but give us a lift going into the next crucial league game at home to Bath later this month."
