WP change midfield for final

24th October 2012 13:14

Damian de Allende for Western Province

Starting at 12: Damian de Allende

Western Province coach Allister Coetzee has made just one change to his starting XV for Saturday's Currie Cup Final against the Sharks in Durban.

Damian de Allende comes into the side at inside centre, trading places with Marcel Brache who drops to the bench.

Deon Fourie remains at openside flank and will captain the side in the absence of Jean de Villiers.

Coetzee is confident De Allende will do well against the 2010 champions.

"They have got a powerful team and I think Marcel (Brache) will do a job off the bench and we will probably be needing his experience in the last couple of minutes of the game," he explained.

"We have got to front up physically and I think Damien (de Allende) is the right choice.

"He is quite a good ball-carrier, he has got explosive pace, he is quite big and tall and he has got good core skills as well."

Western Province: 15 Gio Aplon, 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Don Armand, 6 Deon Fourie (captain), 5 De Kock Steenkamp, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Scarra Ntubeni, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Replacements: 16 Deon Carstens, 17 Brok Harris, 18 Wilhelm van der Sluys, 19 Jebb Sinclair, 20 Louis Schreuder, 21 Marcel Brache, 22 Joe Pietersen.

Date: Saturday, October 27
Venue: Kings Park, Durban
Kick-off: 17.00 (15.00 GMT)
Referee: Jaco Peyper

JayStarr, try being a heli rescue pilot, while doing your Phd in Aerospace engineering and also raising 11 kids while playing rugby over weekends!

Whatever Boet, dream on!!

JayStarr, always knew you were jobless in order to lay on the beach while the rest of us work for a living!

i dont think JDV would have brought anything special to this current backline. Its time to look to the future and start picking the exciting young players ('exciting' being a word rarely used to describe JDV's performances this year)

I'd rather not have JDV now than not have Brache and De Allende next year.

Schalla, JDV and Bekker have been fantastic players for us in the past and i'm thankful for their years of service to the blue and white hoops, but I challenge anybody to name '1' just '1' final or knockout match where either of them have performed well. They are some of my favourite players but maybe WP's lack of BMT can partially be blamed on these 3 men.

i'm still confident WP will win the Cup this year, just like they are gonna win the u19 and u21 trophees

"We're gonna win this time."

@ martinmarais: Uhm, unlike you who sit at your computer the whole day I was actually at the beach enjoying the sunshine... So excuse my delay.

Well Brache is being left out on purpose isn't he... Have you seen De Allende play at inside centre before? I haven't. But Alistair Coetzee has, so I'll trust him for now. Apparently this is where this guy has played most of his rugby... and he's a big, fast guy - and has good skills - so I am not going to complain about it... I want to see how it goes first. I mean, he's facing Tim Whitehead and Paul Jordaan - not exactly the most experienced guys on the block either. If anything, it could distract your be-hated Sharks a bit... And the odds are so stacked against us I'm happy with us trying anything out of the box.

@martin I was one of those, but only for the reason of giving him some rest... as much as I would love to see my beloved WP win the CC, I would rather see a full strength Bok side tour in a couple of weeks.

Silent are those that were positive about JDV being replaced by Marcel Brache!

Now that we are down to Damian de Who are you guys still positive about JDV ruled out?

Yep, thats right I am pointing my fat finger at YOU Jaystarr with your last week foolish comment about JDV injury being a blessing in disguise!!!
