Wellington bounced back from last weekend's ITM Cup loss to Canterbury with a comprehensive 29-13 win against Waikato.
Eric Sione, Ardie Savea, Shaun Treeby and Jason Woodward scored tries for Wellington, while Ted Tauroa crossed for Waikato's only five pointer.
The Lions now have 19 competition points, one more than Taranaki, who've dismissed Canterbury 18-9 in their latest Ranfurly Shield match.
