Chris Eaton Hurricanes pass 2012

Chris Eaton: To provide short-term cover for Force

Former Hurricanes scrum-half Chris Eaton has joined the Western Force on a short-term contract for the 2013 Super Rugby season.

The 28-year-old comes into the squad as cover for Wallaby scrum-half Brett Sheehan, who is on the comeback trail from an ankle injury suffered in Australia's 22-19 Test win over Italy in Florence in November. Sheehan is expected to be available for selection next month.

Eaton joins fellow Kiwi Alby Mathewson and Mick Snowden, who made his Super Rugby debut against the Kings on Saturday, as the current scrum-half options for the franchise.

Eaton, who has begun training in Perth, played 27 Super Rugby matches across two seasons for the Hurricanes in 2011 and 2012.

His contract with the Force will extend until Sheehan is available to resume his place in the playing squad.

Aussie franchises just continue to build their depth, not enough Aussies to make a decent Wannabie side. (see the fall and fall of the English football side)

good for him - he played well for Hurricanes last season after Perenara out injured, and surprised he didn't get called up by any NZ franchise or their wider training groups; a contract like this may put him back on track for a proper/season contract in 2014.
