Michael Claassens Bath Aviva Premiership

Big decision: Michael Claassens

Scrum-half Michael Claassens could become the next South African to join Toulon after Bath head coach Gary Gold revealed that a move is possible.

Toulon recently added Bok wing Bryan Habana to their arsenal for next season and Gold admitted that Claassens had been in talks with them.

"He's been open and honest with us and he is in talks," said Gold of the strong scrum-half, who is out of contract at the end of the current season.

"I'm sure Michael will tell us as soon as anything can be confirmed."

Claassens has been at Bath since 2007 when he joined the club from the Cheetahs in South Africa and has played 117 times in the Premiership.

"Since January we've been allowed to go out and have a look. We've known who is on the market for a while," added Gold over possible replacements.

"We've got a few irons in the fire and some potentially exciting prospects coming through."

I'd prefer him to stay - he's been excellent for us. But if he does go, I wish him success.

As for Bath, we need to recruit better and 9 is not a position where we have much strength in depth, at the moment.

Craig, Gold, Booth et al need to be recruiting well now. Some significant experienced players to compliment the talents we have in the 1st XV and below. We need cover for Internationals, when they get their call ups and youngsters developing.

With Farleigh House we have (aguably) the best training facilities in the Premiership. Let's match that with talent and start winning some silverware.

ALLEZ!

Claassens's style of play would suit Toulon and would be a great signing for them.
