Tom Varndell London Wasps try

New deal: Tom Varndell

Prolific try-scoring winger Tom Varndell has committed his future to London Wasps, signing a new contract extension this week.

Varndell is in the form of his life this season, having crossed the try-line 13 times already and he showed his devastating finishing to great effect last weekend when he bagged three tries in the opening 13 minutes of the game, scoring one of the fastest ever hat-tricks in the 17-year history of European club rugby.

Since joining London Wasps from Leicester Tigers in 2009, Varndell has scored nearly 50 tries in 89 appearances and he is chasing down another superb record as he sits just five tries off Mark Cueto and Steve Hanley's joint Premiership record of 75.

"I'm really excited to be here for the next few years," said Varndell to the club's website.

"The group of players we have here know what it's like when the going gets tough and I think we are all the stronger for what we went through last season. Now things are looking up and we've got a fantastic squad of players here who I believe can really achieve something together in the coming seasons.

"You only have to look around you at some of the young talent we have coming through and some of the experience that Dai Young has organised around that, to get excited about what is to come. I am loving my rugby this season and the type of rugby that we are playing at Wasps is fantastic when you're a winger."

"Tom has played a big part in our improvement this season and his finishing is second to none," said London Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young.

"I am really pleased he's going to be a Wasps player for the foreseeable future.

This shows true testament to the guys character, after being the inform wing in the GP and being the leagues top try scorer, he gets completely snubbed by SL, SHOCKING considering SL says he has picked on form. If I were Varndell I would be straight on the phone to SL and of course in a diplomatic way asking what more was required of me to get selected for England. I do hope the door is still open for Varndell because a move to France would have been on the cards if I were in his position and then I would have no doubt that another Armitage type scenario would have occurred, ie playing in the form of his life and another England prospect gone due to poor management by England Management. Get it sorted SL!!!!!!!!!!!
