New arrival: De Chaves

South African lock Sebastian de Chaves has signed for Leicester Tigers for next season from Top 14 strugglers Mont-de-Marsan.

According to the Leicester Mercury, De Chaves is set to join the Tigers as a replacement for fellow South African lock Rob Andrew, as opposed to England second row Geoff Parling who is out of contract at the end of this season.

The 22-year old moved to France at the beginning of the last season and has been in impressive form despite his side's dismal run in the Top 14, that sees them ten points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The 6ft 6in lock made the announcement via his Twitter account on Sunday and is eligible to play for South Africa, England and Portugal.

De Chaves played for South Africa during the U20 World Championship back in 2010 and has signed a two-year deal with Leicester.

Tonga u 20? Now nz u20

Beast is not Sa by birth and many other zim have played for you. Your stupid quota system does not help either.

@ pikes - need some mayo with those chips, my friend? There's you bleating on about how tough it is and you wonder why people are leaving. It seems obvious to me.

And your cricket analogy in nonsense too. Your batting average may be 40, but can you bowl? Are you an actual all-rounder, or just a part-time bowler? Or a wicket-keeper? How are you in the field? A bit like Bell, or more like Panesar? You see my point? You're too narrow-minded and not seeing the bigger picture.

"...50% of all your sporting codes is made up of people that well and truely foreigners"

"when your born in a country then that's your Nationality. No matter how you put it"

Really? Until you stop making stuff up, start making sense and stop behaving like Bok Avenger's younger sister, I'm going to ignore your pathetic rants and get on with enjoying the rugby.

common response from the English !!!! almost expected that ...South Africa are spoilt fot choice, we honestly cant help it lol unlike you we dont think we the best in the world when we beat All Blacks because we do it all the time !!!!! now that stinks in England , OH I forgot Owen Farrell nominated for player of the year but he sits on the bench almost the whole year , pathetic... the rest of the rugby world laughs at you English lads for living in a world that only exist in your mind lmao You havent even beaten us in 10 matches, so that means you not in the same league boys

@ TVaddict & lawynd - it seems pikes is this thread's chip-on-shoulder carrier. He can't even describe himself as South African, which is a shame. And I think his stats are complete nonsense too, but that's never stopped anyone, so why worry now, eh?

They laugh at us English, yet I worry about what's driving their players away? Is it really that awful living in SA? Why don't players want to play for them at a national level? Embarassment? Shame? Who knows..?

Kockott's another example of a SA mercenary on the hunt for a national team:

"I'm still very young and I'd like to have an international career. Here (in France) or in my country," he said. "I have three or four years left to achieve that."

Where's the national pride there then?

I suggest that says a lot more about SA than it does about the countries these players are leaving for.

@ pikes - you may be ranked #1 for Tests, but we're #1 for ODIs and we're above you in T20. And give us a short while and we'll wrestle the Test mantle back too.

Sorry - wrong site.

"...but put it this way if my average is 40 per innings and yours is aswell I should get the chance because we have to work harder to get there..."

Thank you pikes, for amply illustrating what stinks in South Africa...I feel really sorry for your compatriots who have to share a nation with those of such a blinkered view.

@lawynd & @ TVaddict - and of those second rows that are left, Parling, Deacon, Slater & Kitchener (along with Croft) are all in the international squads, which is going to leave us a bit short at lock. Tigers are always going to require a bigger squad because so many of the team is away at international time.

How many zimbo's and namibians have played for the boks??? Lots guys so get I've it...

Lawynd so you and Pietersen are friends now? You know so much lmao We are the best Test playing cricket nation ! Our current team is one of the best ever. I'm proudly Cape Coloured and don't agree with quotas but put it this way if my average is 40 per innings and yours is aswell I should get the chance because we have to work harder to get there anyway this is rugby not cricket go to cricinfo.com plz @Kybone its all about the money don't fool yourself btw when your born in a country then that's your Nationality. No matter how you put it

pikes- We can't help it if your compatriots want to be English when they grow up

kybone, I am not in favour of Pretorius becoming Welsh either. I do puzzle over why the union with the most resources on earth does not concentrate on it's own players.

ArmchairGeneral - I like it. I wonder if some of my dimmer compatriots will bite on that.

Posted 12:50 10th January 2013

lawynd says...

@pikes - still jealous that Pietersen didn't want to play for a system that called for quotas?

Posted 09:58 10th January 2013

pikes says...

Lmao English simply mean nothing if they had to pick players that's actually English ... Say whatever you like 50% of all your sporting codes is made up of people that well and truely foreigners... Just so happen you using a lot of South Africans ! Why don't you just thank us rather then hate us ! We played 5 rugby world cups we've won 2 you've played 7 you've won 1... we better point proven! With all your economic wealth you still no match for us ! Check the record APV1 we got it on lock ( tongue out )

ArmchairGeneral says...

He should definitely play for Portugal, if he can make their squad. If he can't get in then there's always the Boks.

Posted 21:09 09th January 2013

lawynd says...

@TVaddict - of that six, Joe Cain is unproven at AP level so far and Rob Andrew was obviously just a stop-gap signing. That leaves Kitchener, Deacon (who at 32 is not going to go on forever), Parling and Slater, so once Andrew leaves it'll be the same numbers.

Posted 15:40 09th January 2013

kybone says...

daibok- Change the record crybok. Check out the other thread about Andries Pretorius' desire to play for Wales. How come you're not all over that. Oh thats right, its because its not England.

TVaddict says...

How many second rows do Leicester need? They have 6, plus Croft and Mafi and that's 8 players who can play second row. That's already more than any other premiership team I believe, why more?

@APV1

lol, they'll be foaming at the mouth commenting on this piece!
