adamk says...

When not injured and on form he's the best Irish wing in professional times. A true shame if he moves over seas.

howrtings - tell me one part of Earls' game that is stronger than Fitz's, and try not to make me laugh please.

Fitz is a class player far more talent than Darcy/Wallace and more, give him the ocntract and sack Deccie!!!!!!

Kidney is the worst manager in modern rugby - total disgrace with his selection him and Trap are killing Irelands national teams

@ DaveJ - nobody is saying that Fitzgerald doesn't deserve a contract, he has been offered a contract. What has happened here is Fitzgerald has tried to play hard ball and it's back fired....more fool is he.

I see a few comments about Paddy Wallace, I would certainly not be his biggest fan, but compare the individual performances of Wallace and Fitz over the past couple of years, and Wallace has been the far more productive player.

Fitzgerald more talanted than Earls....not in MILLION years!!

Not to mention that absolute waste of space paddy wallace - whom still has an IRFU contract

DaveJ says...

I think this is a mistake by the IRFU, he's a talented player that went off form - which happens. He was starting to find great form again and got injured. He can play centre or wing and is by far more talented than trimble, earls, mc fadden or zebo on form.

Just move to France Mr Fitzgerald, change your name to Luc, bank the Euros(same Bank account) and live happily ever after. Only possibly eight years left on your career so cash in the shares and make sure you look after yourself for later life. Lets face it if you're getting injured that often you may not have long to go, don't miss the opportunity.

If you gonna take a pay cut Luke then may as well head south and learn from the best. Come back a better player even if you warm the bench down under.

Cut Paddy Wallace contract and give him some more money.

I imagine there will be teams willing to come closer to his asking price than the Irish, or maybe he'll take a reduced contract and play in the super 15. Like him as a player and hope he does well.

I must say - i'm leaning in favour of the IRFU here. I would imagine that ¿280K (his previous contract) would have been closer to the top rather than closer to the bottom of IRFU earners, and over the past 3 years or so, there is no way it can be justified. If the reports are to be belived, he was offered in the region of ¿200K, a big drop but still a good package for a player who has not shown any form of late.

Don't get me wrong - I wish he would stay, it's far better for the game to have our players playing in Ireland, but I think the IRFU have priced his contract just right, and if that's not enough for Fitzgerald, then the best of luck to him...he can be easily replaced.

He was great this year from leinster when he came back he has been really unlucky with injury the last 2 years but is a hell of a player. 80,000 is way too much of a cut for anyone to take 40,50 maybe he would take it but 80.000 even i think that's unreasonable from the IRFU.

You'd have to hope that once Deccie is ousted that the selection policy will change and that the players whom are on form willbe picked regardless of where they play. I hate to say it but mcfadden looked woeful on the wing against the blacks. I believe his contract was still ah high 6 figure salary. He may well now have bitten off his nose to spite his face!

from what i heard a few months ago they wanted him to drop from 280,000 to 200,000 euro. i really hope they work something out

corkoptimist says...

I wonder how much the contract was still worth? Would be disappotioned to see him go if it meant he'd be less likely to be selected for Ireland as I'd still have him in the Irish team ahead of the likes of Trimble and McFadden if he was showing anything close to 2009 form!
