The Springboks will be without Victor Matfield for a second straight week as he continues his rehabilitation on a knee injury.

The veteran lock did not fly to Argentina for South Africa's Rugby Championship rematch with los Pumas and was spotted at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday.

Matfield was ruled out of last weekend's opening Test due to a cartilage tear and is likely to only be available for the clash against Australia in a fortnight's time.

The news means that the Boks are likely to have Lood de Jager in the number five jersey although Eben Etzebeth may replace Bakkies Botha in the starting second row.

Loose forward Willem Alberts also stayed in South Africa, meaning Juan Smith, who has been passed fit is likely to feature.
