takes a tough mentality to come back from such and injury and play with no fear again... but he can take heart from Danny Lydiate who recovered from similar injury and remains one of the most fearless and ferocious tacklers in the business....

I read in an article on Yahoo! that he has movement in both hands and feet and there is no nerve damage.
Its going to be a long hard recovery for him but Iam sure we all wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

These pre-season friendlies seem to be getting too intense.
Broken neck... I'm suprised they're talking about a return so soon. Good luck to him regaining full bone strength and on deciding if he should continue.

6-8 weeks immobilization then 4-6 weeks rehab before he's back playing. Long and frustrating recovery but a lucky escape by the sounds of things.

Bad news this, the guys had a lot of injuries since his first Scottish cap, they have precious little quality in the centre as it is and he had the skills to nail down a place for the future. Thankfully though he's got no serious side effects. Had a similar one myself and retired at 50 so its not all lost. Speedy recovery and all best wishes.

Very distressing news indeed. Having had a number of scares with my neck playing the game, it makes one wonder if it is all worth the risk. I wish joe a speedy recovery to full health.

Don't know detail at this stage but just wishing him a full and speedy recovery for his sake. A standout for Scotland but he's not been lucky with injury recently. Good luck Joe, hoping to see you at Murrayfield again soon.
