benski what's your point? Are you saying the 2 tackles were the same and the punishment should be the same? Or that the referee was completely wrong in meting out the same punishment for 2 completely different tackles? The latter I hope.

@ benski, u stupid person, this was a normal tackle and the ref got it wrong, no pen no card no win for Wales, thank god the powers that be overturned this, now time for Barnes to be brought in and asked to apologise for his mistake!!!!!!!!
Barnes is a useless referee and should be banned as for Pearson who recomended yellow for Davies he should be forced into early retirement, he robbed Ireland last year vs France with crazy nonsencial decisions two English referees who are a illness in Rugby. Ferris lifted 1 leg and Evans fell on his arm then his hip and as such is a normal tackle get rid of Barnes and Pearson please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop saying that this is an inconsistent call people, it was a fully legal tackle and a penalty at worst, there was no intention and the player was not dumped, he simply had one leg lifted (which there is no rule against) but regardless the refs decision is final as it has always been. Glad the whole incident is resolved as losing Ireland the game was more punishment than was required by itself.

So does this mean Wayne Barnes was wrong?
Will he mysteriously get an injury before his next assigment?
Farcical

Seems fair. Glad to see the disciplinary committee using common sense. 7 weeks for Davis seems excessive, but given it was off the ball I can see the justification for it.

This is a good example of why the "on report" option should be available. Hopefully the S15/ 4N trial works & it gets adopted IRB-wide asap. I'd be interested to know where Barnes was in relation to the incident i.e. would he have known that only 1 of Evans' feet left the ground? Does the rule even require that both feet leave the ground in order for a tip-tackle to have occurred?

We all know disiplinay panels mostly support the ref, except when it is an English player, and I think that by this result , the panel NOT supporting the ref , proves what I thought the minute I saw the replay on TV. That it was not a penalty and Ireland should have won!

See my post in "The good the Bad & the Referee" Story(Laws and referees section). Vindicates my analysis that it was not even a penalty!

Well to the letter of the law it was a tip tackle but i feel justice has been done here .The differance between his and Davies is massive Ferris's wasnt really dangerous while Davies's dagerous in the extream

Didn't even merit a penalty but while it granted Wales an easy penalty, odds on they would have scored anyway, given the field position they'd earned. Ireland's cardinal error was allowing them to make up so much ground from the restart in the lead up.
I'm finding it hard to care about anything else Ireland do in this tournament.
