Let's suppose it was Scotland and not Wales that was a point ahead of Australia with five minutes to go -
in that situation, on a dry day, would Scotland have the mettle to hold out for the win?

Scotland will never ever ever ever get to a WC Semi Final, let alone Final, let alone win a final. Chris you've just made your self look like a bit of a plonka with this statement. I think Scotland would be lucky to win a six nations at best, but WC some things just don't happen

I think he's absolutely right....I predict a Scotland vs Namibia final after AB, Oz, and the Boks do not make it out of the pools. France and Ireland will have withdrawn from Union by then and started their own code where eye gouging is encouraged. And England will have extended the nepotism rife at junior levels to the point where the national team is coached by someone with a son who wants to be flyhalf.

Would you be prepared to have a wee bet on it, Chris?

Here are a few reasons you can't win scotland - your scrum is weaker than England's, Wale's, SA's, Italy's, France's and Nz's without Euan Murray to play your sunday games. Your Fly halves are either not very good or get run over in defence in an O'gara-ish manner and lastly some teams (eg: the world champs) don't win by small margins, they tend to win by big ones as you'll remember from the last time Nz visited Murrayfield.

Sorry but Scotland winning the WC isn't realistic. I know you have to dream these type of targets but setting them will set you up for a fall. 6N Wooden spoon winners to Grand Winners isn't going to happen either. There's a reason you lost those games, it's because Scotland are not good enough

Hang on china, lets not get ahead of ourselves. It would be fantastic to see Scotland win, but surely they should be concentrating on getting off the bottom of the Six Nations ladder first.

"There's no reason why we can't win a World Cup or a Six Nations." I can think of a few. A tiny playing squad borne out of having desperately low player numbers and only two professional sides, a lack of genuine quality throughout the team, a penchant for picking awful centres and an apparent dependance on the weather to grind out wins against below par southern hemisphere sides. That said, the likes of Hogg, Evans, Jones, Visser, Grove, Lamont, Laidlaw, Blair and Cusiter now provide a very dangerous looking backline, especially compared to the woeful backs that have been picked in previous years. The forwards will compete with near enough anyone on their day but lack of depth in all positions is always going to be their Achilles heel
