@ Bok Avenger
Yes The irish U20s were fairly competitive in the JWC, we did lose to England this week but can you remember who they beat last week?

@kennyisgay you're either bad at being funny or stupid, I'm guessing both. That Irish team got trashed by England in the 6N, still you've got 2 more weeks of being bummed by the AB's to enjoy

@kennyisgay: Yeah, mate..Ireland would have been really competitive in the Junior World Cup we're hosting. Too bad they have to play Team IRB instead.

Hayj05: Ireland were carved to pieces by NZ so obviously Conrad Smith was going to look good. The reason I think JDV is a better choice is because you have to factor in several things like: he was playing out of position at 13 (he's normally a 12) and was playing with a new inside centre in the form of Frans Steyn who has been playing fullback for the last few years in France - hardly a recipe for midfield fluidity. It was also his first game as captain under a new coach with the weight of arguably the most fickle of rugby nations on his shoulders - yet he still had a great game. Also bear in mind that the weather was atrocious in Durban (think rain coupled with sub-tropical humidity) which doesn't make for great back play. Then there was also the small matter of a 110kg Manu Tuilagi to deal with...

I have to agree with hayj05, Conrad Smith was awesome. Sam Whitelock sealed it in the forwards.

@BokAvenger - My opinion not yours.
You're welcome to tell me why you thought De Villiers deserved the spot but I didn't say you had to agree with me so please don't call me a "fool".
This selection is purely subjective... no rights or wrongs.

Agreed. I had Conrad Smith in my team of the week on Dumptackle Rugby Blog.
DeVilliers perfromed admirably but both Sonny Bill Williams and Conrad Smith showed far more rounded skill set against one of the best centres of all time in Brian O'Driscoll. Surely that warrants more praise than beating up a Brad Barritt or Manu Tuilagi?
Also I would say that although Israel Dagg performed reasonably well, he made a school boy error in the first half were he failed to capitalise on a clear two on one situation, making a hapless early pass to Guildford. If people are going to berate Owen Farrell for the same thing, than surely Dagg should be judged in the same manner?
Not sure about Jannie DuPlessis either. For me South Africa had parity in the scrum only till late in the second half. At that point it was the substitutes such as Connie Oosthuizen of the Cheetahs who were making the big impact.

Tatafu had a decent game and a moment of sublime pleasure, though Bizmark was immense for the full time he was on the field. Being a one eyed cheetahs supporter, I have been suggesting that Strauss must be strongly in the running for the starting berth, though Bizmark shut me up on Saturday. SA must have the best 2 hookers in the game at present.
Dagg, Habana, Read, Roncero (ok, and Genia if I have to!) were a pleasure to watch and were the top players of the weekend.

No idea how you guys included Jannie du Plessis - I actually thought he was shown up by a much better Coenie Oosthuizen when he came on. The fool who thinks Conrad Smith was better than JDV is just that...a fool!

Rory Best deserves a mention, was one of the few Ireland players to really stand out and play to potential.

@Trinats
Higginbotham had a good game but Alberts was monstrous - you know the expectation you have if you run into a bloke as big as him, or he runs into you? Either you're going 5m back when he tackles you or you're going 5m past the gainline as he drags you along, along with 2 other people? Every time for the full 80. Scarily powerful, and doesn't bode well for next week for my lot!

The only one, in my humble opinion, that I would of liked to see in there is Conrad Smith.
While De Villiers was a winner in first test as captain I really don't know how that counts towards how well he performed personally. He missed two or three tackles & was just in the right place at the right time for the try.
Conrad for me, was the best player for the AB's, enormous on defense & as clinical as ever on attack.

Echo others comments ,that disappointed that theres no englishmen or more scotsmen ,they produced the best NH performances overall at this week. But cant argue the individual selections, except matbe A.Cuthberts ,yes he scored a try ,but i didnt think he did much else to be honest.

I reflect fozza's comments and am dissappointed that the giant killing Scotland only had one, particularly when their pack were awesome in those conditions.

Thought the Irish full back should be in there. Just the way he knocked SBW on his arse.
Where's Higgers ?? Alberts must have been outstanding at 6. Could have had a positional switch with Alberts and Read (who was at least two meters in front of Carters kick! and that's before I had my beer goggles on)

Not had the chance to watch all of the games from the weekend yet, so will trust in planet rugby and simply express my disappointment that we English couldn't get a single player in there. Here's hoping for improvement over the coming weeks.
