Munster have announced that veteran lock Paul O'Connell will continue with treatment to a lower back injury which has kept him on the sidelines for the past two months.
O'Connell, who captained the British and Irish Lions on their tour to South Africa in 2009, has not played since Munster's Round Two Heineken Cup clash with Edinburgh at Thomond Park on 21 October.
He was part of Ireland's squad for the recent end-of-year Tests but suffered a reaction ahead of their clash with South Africa early in November.
Munster issued a press statement on Tuesday to clarify the 33-year-old's situation.
"Paul O'Connell is undergoing treatment for a lower back complaint," the statement read.
"His treatment is progressing satisfactorily. He will see a specialist for further review in the new year."

I agree @sirtidychris it hasnt clarrified anything ,its a back problem ,we all knew that,but isit a slipped disc ,trapped nerve ,brised spine,or spinal cartilege injury??and just how long is he expected to be out for,back for 6Ns or not .Awaste of a thread imo.

This doesn't clarify much at all.....how long is he out for, it just says its a lower back injury and will have more treatment in the new year...is it a slipped disc, torn muscle is it 3 weeks or 3 months out or career threatening ?... if he can come back from this then i reckon this might do the big fella some good giving his body some rest before the six nations and last push for lions selection....good luck POC in my eyes when your fit and firing your still the best in the NH.
