Shoulder injury: Hendre Fourie

Sale Sharks have confirmed that former England flanker Hendre Fourie has been forced to retire due to a shoulder injury.

Fourie was capped eight times by England between 2010/2011 but missed out on selection for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand after picking up an injury in the warm-up clash against Ireland.

The former Rotherham and Leeds flanker joined the Sharks for the beginning of the 2011/2012 season but only ever made three appearances for the club, his most recent outing as a substitute against Worcester last February.

"Unfortunately, Hendre has had to retire. We got the final confirmation last week after taking medical advice," said Sale boss Steve Diamond.

"As a club we have backed Hendre 100 per cent in his battle to get fit but unfortunately, his shoulder has not recovered. His body has been battered so much that the shoulder won't recover."
