RWC 2015 eyeing Olympic Stadium?

Possibility: Olympic Stadium

Organisers of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England are planning to use London's Olympic Stadium as one of the venues for the competition.

There are still uncertainties over who the tenants of the 80,000-seater stadium would be after the Games and whether the capacity will be reduced.

But Ross Young, chief operating officer of the RWC's organising committee, said that "you would be mad not to include it as part of your thinking" as England looks to sell nearly three million tickets for the major sporting event.

Tournament organisers are seeking to feed off the success of the London Olympics, with newly appointed IRB chief executive Brett Gosper saying "it's putting the right kind of pressure on us."

Why are people even mentioning the Millennium Stadium? Last time I looked it was in Wales? This is a World Cup in England, with all the financial risk being taken by the RFU - any advantages financially that can be gained should again be just for the RFU - which they can then feedback into developing our game!

Wales are playing a World Cup in a foreign country - so they should always be the away team - why give them any form of advantage with the possibility of home games? They are, after all, a competitor to the hosting nation!

Plus even if the Olympic Stadium isn't available there are plenty of world class stadia around England and it would be good to spread games outside of London! We have Twikenham, Wembley, Old Trafford, Villa Park, St. James's Park, Welford Road, Adams Park to name but a few!

Let's not hear anything else about Wales hosting any games - there is no need! The Millennium Stadium is a good ground - but we can offer equally good in England and that is the point - they are in England!

Makes sense to use it. It's there and it's a great stadium. Shame it's in London though and not somewhere else in the UK.

And I hadn't thought about the Millemium stadium like this, and it's a fair point.

using the stadium is common sense.

i see no reason not to use the stadium. Twickers, Wembley and Olympic stadium is a pretty good line up.

do not see any reasoning why Millenium Stadium should be used at all.

Wales will probably be in England's pool anyway and be out before knock out stages.

Outstanding!

And I agree with melkdave, we shouldn't have to use the Millenium. It's an awesome stadium, without a doubt, but the 2015 RWC is in England.

Well it would be a welcome addition ,and perhaps we can then do without the Millienium in Cardiff. in the plans .I for one think that it isnt really needed ,so why use it.Its only encouraging the WRU to push for welsh games at home, and they really dont deserve any ,after all its supposed to be an England only affair in 2015,and they havent paid anything towards hosting it .
