Perhaps a way forward for the RFU could be to appoint Nick Mallett to a new role on the board of the RFU. This could perhaps be to a "director of elite rugby" role. Meanwhile, Stuart Lancaster should be appointed as the full time coach. Not sure if Mallett would go for that but it would seem a shame not to use the man's talent and experience in some way. Looking at the RFU site, I see a director of operations, a president, a CFO, a CCO, a CEO and a rugby development director.
And guess what, at least one of these is invisible !

We all know that SL should be appointed - what more could the RFU have asked of him? He's over-acheived and exceeded everyone's expectations (not, their hopes, I hasten to add!).
But it is the RFU we're on about here. Their track-record for brilliant decisions is a little shaky...

The danger in this situation is the RFU. On the one hand they have Nick Mallet, a proven top level coach. I am very privileged to have met Nick when he coached Stade Francais so I know how good he is, and his level is very above most of the coaches around today in world rugby. On the other hand they have Stuart.......just take a look at the results, the structure and the support of the players. Nick is very honest when he recognizes the situation after this 6 nations but I have absolutely no confidence that the RFU will have any connection to reality in making the decision. Nick, if you read this, give the RFU a call and bring them into the 21st century!

SL will hopefully be given the chance on merit. If not he at least cleared the ranks of some of the arrogant idiots that disgraced us in the last RWC and has bought a degree of pride back to the shirt. If he is not to continue it will be interesting to hear the RFU's reasoning as to why not.

I was supporting Ireland, but had to admit they were very poor.
Not a fan of Owens as a ref, but he had one of the performances of the 6N.
Wish i could say the same about Joubert, who was very poor. Inconsistent, seemed out of his depth, not match fit, did not seem to want to use his AR's/TJ's.
AR's were not watching the break ups, and seemed intent on watching where the ball was kicked, not what happened after the kick, and so missed incidents.

I belive that N.Mallet or whoever is the running will be given the EPD posistion at the RFU and SL will continue as coach along with Rowntree myself .SL and co have imo earned the right to take this England team forward and to see what they can do .Hopfully win the RWC in 2015 LOL

Stuart Lancaster should be given the sack...then Ireland might have some chance of beating England in next years 6 Nations

The RFU does not need a high profile coach such as Nick Mallet. What they do need is a well balanced "coaching team" - a team that they may well have stumbled upon (discovered?) during this "interim" period without a permanent Head Coach. There is no reason why Stuart Lancaster can not develop into a world class coach as he is also helping to restore the fortunes of England's Elite Team.
