Eight tries: Kurt Baker

New Zealand claimed the IRB Sevens title in South Africa for a record fourth successive year after beating France 47-12 in the final in PE on Sunday.

The All Blacks outscored the French seven tries to two in the final to record a emphatic 47-12 victory. Kurt Baker was hugely impressive bagging a hat-trick in the final. It was an impressive win and a fitting end to a great weekend in South Africa.

The defending champions beat hosts South Africa to book their place in the Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa Sevens. The Kiwis had to come from 5-0 behind to beat the hosts 12-5 thanks to yet another strong display from Tomasi Cama.

In the second semi-final, France snatched victory in sudden death extra time after Manoel Dall Igna had drawn the scores level in the final seconds of normal time. Gaston Revel hit the post with an attempted penalty drop for Los Pumas, but Terry Bouhraoua stepped up successfully for France.

South Africa ended their campaign on a high, beating Argentina 35-0 to finish third.

when's the next 7's rwc? because there's now a valid argument for english 15-a-side players to go to it. I'm usually against this practice because it feels unfair to the professional 7's players. but the england squad hasn't performed for a few seasons now, so why not take Wade? or Care or Burns?

Maybe they should move the round from SA to Kenya - they and Portugal are on the move.

@ kybone: with the Olympics, from this very year the French federation has set 7s as a priority; players are now directly managed by the federation and not any more just loaned by the clubs at their good will. More time together, specific preparation, etc.

Hi mayce,

Agree with you. I think the SA leg should be relocated to Newlands.

Well done NZ. And well doen France actually. I've always been a bit puzzled as to why such a major rugby playing nation don't have a good 7's team, especially when they produce such talented attacking players. But they seem to be turning a corner this year. Also good to see the likes of Portugal and Spain do well again. As for England, TRY HARDER!!
