Positive test: 'DMAA' is a stimulant

Cavalieri Prato full-back New Zealander Dion Berryman has tested positive for a banned substance, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) announced on Thursday.

CONI said that New Zealander Berryman has been provisionally suspended pending the analysis and publication of further tests.

"CONI announces a positive case following examinations carried out by the Rome laboratory," read a statement by CONI.

"An A sample taken from Dion Berryman on November 4 after the Cavalieri Prato v Calvisano game was found to contain 4-methyl-2-Esanamina.

"The disciplinary commission of the National Anti-Doping Tribunal has provisionally suspended the athlete."

Having merged with several other clubs in the region in 2010, Cavalieri Prato became Tuscany's top rugby franchise. The team has previously played in the European Challenge Cup.

Former notable players include current Italy international Kris Burton, who plays for Treviso.

Just need to google south african schools doping and you can read about doping in rugby, it's potentially an epidemic over there.

Whenever I read of drug cheats I can't help but think of Lawrence Dallaglio. That guy got let off VERY lightly! One player who got away with it...unfortunately.

"Just goes to show what cheats all New Zealanders are. At everything."

LOL - NZ is actually the least corrupt country in the world, well the United Nations corruptions index usually has NZ as the cleanest (South Africa rates in the 50s). The only drug scandals involving NZders at the Olympics has involved New Zealanders getting promoted because of some drug cheat ahead of them !

Having said that - yes NZ born, played rugby his whole life in Australia, I guess we, NZ, will have to take this one on the chin. (didn't two actual Springboks fail drug tests ?, well the were slapped with hefty 90 days bans) As for the headline what a beat up.

Other New Zealanders have failed drugged test in sport, we have had one or two cyclists, and a high jumper who rep'd at the Commonwealth Games for NZ but was actually caught doing steriods while playing American football at some level.

I am dreading the day when an All Black gets done for doping, actually I dred they day for all rugby, I hope we are as clean as we seem to be so far. There is bound to be some bad apples somewhere

Just another misleading headline from a British sub editor trying to keep up with his mates in the British Gutter Press. Cmon Ross stop this nonsense, that sub editor, unless it was you, knew what he was doing and just lowered the standard we expect from Planet Rugby. I know he can be said to be tecnically correct but it was what was intended which is out of place. Sigh! but then it is a sign of British sensationalism personified by the discredited Murdoch Press. Don't join them Ross we expect more.from Planet Rugby.

Is it me or are PR turning into the The Shun and The Daily Fail when it comes to 'reporting' news? A positive drugs test is already a headline no matter who it is, why does it have to be so sensationalist (and slightly misleading - does their nationality really matte?) too?

Haha I bet you people got excited when clicking on the headline, thinking they could sink there teeth into NZ Rugby.

Nek minute...

Somebody that no one has ever heard of that plays Rugby for an Italian club side.

Love the sensationalist headline there PR, my first thought was "Omg not Dagg!"

Never heard of the guy, other than possibly a relation to Storming Norm Berryman.

I am convinced there are drug cheats in rugby, there is just too much of a toll on their bodies week in week out for there to not be. Maybe not a lance Armstrong but definitely a Ben Johnson or two.

Kiwi fullback?

Never heard of him.

From what i can find, has played all his rugby in Australia, since 2010 for the Gordon club (Sydney) till this year when he picked up this contract in Italy.

NZ-born, but he says 'has called Australia home for many years', was in the Western Force Academy team 5-6 years ago.

Hardly news.
