Samoa crush Canada

09th November 2012 22:05

Robert Lilomaiava L of Samoa

Four tries: Robert Lilomaiava

Samoa sent a warning to Wales ahead of next week's Test by destroying Canada 42-12 at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay on Friday..

The Pacific Islanders dominated from the start, scoring five tries - including four for debutant wing Robert Lilomaiava - to cruise into a 42-0 lead.

Cananda saved some face with two late consolation tries in the dying minutes

The writing was on the wall early on as the Samoa pack rumbled forward. Number eight Taiasina Tui'fua grabbed the first try after taking a quick-tap penalty and barging through three defenders to score.

Samoan fly-half Tusi Pisi was pulling the strings on attack masterfully and found Lilomaiava out wide with an pin-point cross-field kick for the young Sevens flyer's first try.

Lilomaiava bagged his second thanks to the TMO before the break to give Samoa a 22-0 lead at the interval.

Lilomaiava had an easy run in for number three and was at the end of neat chip ahead from Pisi for number four.

Moonlight wriggled his way over in the dying minutes to get Canada on the scoreboard before Connor Braid's rounded off a string finish for the Canucks.

I suspect Canada suffer since the Churchill Cup has been stopped. By regularly playing the USA, Saxons, Wolfhounds, etc, all of the players and teams improve. Just look at Argentina.

Samoa have been good for some time now so no surprise here. @jonsey Pisi has been very strong for sometime so clearly England have not kidnapped him immediately. Wales should be underdogs for their Samoa game given that Samoa often beat them and they are better. People talk about Wales wanting to undo the injustice of the WC but they were lucky to have beaten Samoa and get to quarters after Samoa had an unfair short prep time and still ran them very close. If there was an injustice at the WC it was Samoa being denied a quarter final and Wales getting it.

Considering it was a 2nd string Samoan team.. Wales better DEFINATELY watch out, with Paul Williams, David Lemi, Maurie Fa'asavalu, Kahn Fotuali'i, Ti'i Paulo still yet to start!.. with Seilala Mapusua, Alesana Tuilagi, Mahonri Shwalger and George Stowers, Ken Pisi, Eliota Fuimaono Sapolu left out due to various reasons.. Samoa has never had more quality depth in it's whole history..

Who was broadcasting this? I love watching Samoa play but couldn't find it anywhere. Samoa have a balanced squad full of talent. I fully believe if they got as much game time together as the other top nations they'd be in the 4th to 6th range.

Well done Samoa, played with power and smarts. Not good enough Canada, very dissappointing, got to wonder If the late subs should have been made earlier. They brought alot of zip to the game.
