Interesting piece on Nathan Sharpe. If we assume SBW is never returning to union after he goes to Japan will his brief career, where he has won a boatload of trophies, be regarded as better or more successful than Sharpe's? As a second row he performed very well all the way through so the lack of trophies it irrelevant, the 100+ caps is more of a testament to his abilities.

The five second rule and the new scrum rules are well-meant but are ultimately going to prove fairly useless I think. Referees will still make the scrum calls glacially slow so the lack of a pause won't matter, its the delivery that is more important. Criticizing refs for having no propping experience is ridiculous as well as it is just unfeasible that any large proportion of refs either would or should. I've been playing hooker for years and I still don't know what props are doing half the time, as they don't know what I'm doing!

I loved the coach's comment on how he may instruct his defenders after the 'use it' call - my thoughts exactly and as a ref I'm lookng forward to our associations' guidelines on what we are to do if and when a 2nd contest ensues ? Seems like it could be a case of over complicating things with laws and actually at the end of the day the nett result will be very much the same as previously. No surprises there, as the prop alluded to with the revised scrum call.
