Ulster lose skipper for eight weeks

Johann Muller of Ulster celebrates after the final whistle

Massive setback for Ulster: Johann Muller

Ulster look set to be without inspirational captain Johann Muller for up to eight weeks after the South African lock injured his hand.

The former Springbok second-row, who made his 50th appearance for the province over the weekend, ruptured ligaments around his thumb in Friday's 19-8 Heineken Cup win in Glasgow.

The 32-year-old underwent surgery on Sunday to repair the damage and is unlikely to be ready to play again before the end of the year, which means he could miss the crucial back-to-back Heineken Cup Pool Four games against Northampton in December.

Ulster are back in PRO12 action on Friday when they are away to the Dragons at Rodney Parade where flanker Chris Henry is set to take over the captaincy.
