don't be surprised if the refs favor the english and french teams given their recent threats to pull out of the european cup...

Go back to the final pool game, a few years ago, when you were beaten by Biarittz twice, had an italianteam, and I think Glasgow to paly.
Rolland was refereeing, had an awful game, did not go to the TMo for a dubious try by NH, and because of that, you got to the quarters, as 8th team.
You played well in a 9-6 game in Biarittz, and I think were then beaten by Wasps.
Maybe this helps you get the top group seedings.
You have had more than your share of luck, all teams suffer from refereeing, suck it up.

NHsaints - I think you will find that Claremont gave Leinster a better run for their money in the Hcup this year than NH in last years final. You can even discuss the Montpelier draw in the group stages too if you would like?

@NHsaints
My impression was that NHsaints were poorer than their usual standard this year and that's why they went out. Not because of bad calls.
It was pretty easy. Saints gave Leinster a run for their money for half a game. Other teams have done better than that.

@jontheref Funny thing is though...Scarlet's didn't gift us the game...if we're talking about general bad performances and not simple defining moments in which the game was won or lost out of our control as with Munster away and Scarlet's at home then I could list a hundred games which have been 'gifted' in HC pool matches including our game against munster at MK where we decided we weren't going to tackle all game...anyway my point is we were very, very close to making the quarter finals and really should have so people shouldn't write us off against essentially the same team we dominated (in the forwards if not the score board) in the quarter finals in 2011. @crunchfit they were terrible calls from the ref, both the knock on and the knock-on, offside try...you can watch both of them and you'd probably be surprised at how bad they were...especially the one vs scarlets. And we didn't exactly have the easiest route in the world...especially with Ulster (anyway we earnt it by winning all our pool games) and we certainly gave Leinster a better run for their money than any other teams this year or last year in the Final.

If you're going to list all minor events which were part of a poor performance at least mention the fact you got the easiest route to the final in 2011 (and a ridiculous amount of praise for it from all British media). Those kind of things happen to all teams. If it were a terrible call from a ref or a bad cheat I might bring it up but that stuffs pretty minor.

@jcahill1 nope. We had Clermont in our pool only once and that was in the 2010/11 season. We played them in the QF in 2010 and the SF this year. Can't remember any previous meetings between the sides but it has become a real rivalry. Clermont have great fans - it will be an enjoyable two legs but you would imagine they will be able to build on on plenty of hurt to stick it to Leinster.

Leinster might be facing Clermont again, but it's hardly a group of death like Pool 2.

".let's be honest we would have beat munster in thomond park were it not for the ref missing a knock on before howlett's try, we would have hammered Scarlets at home were it not for a blatant offside try and Ashton being incredibly lazy and if not for a poor game away from home against Munster in the last round we still could have qualified for a runner up spot. "
They say hope spings eternal, but not from the River Nene!
You remind me of the Northampton paper, when cardiff beat saints many years ago, "of the 10 tries Cardiff scored, at least two were from forward passes"!
Any other misfortunes you want to mention?
Scarlets gifting you the game in Llanelli?
I thought not!
At least Scarlets got to the Amlin!
:-)

1- I see Munster and Saracens. Edimburgh won't make is again as they won't benefit from the "surprise". Racing Metro are never commited in the Heineken Cup.
2- Massive pool. I see only one winner there, no best 2nd, so I pick up Toulouse to sneek it. But a very hard call.
3- Quins with lucky Biarritz as a possible best runner up.
4- Northampton defo. Not sure there will be a best runner up.
5- Mhhh, Scarlets and Exeter have no chance getting out of there. So Leinster or Clermont... bonus points will play a massive part.
6- Toulon are recruiting heavily but it won't be easy. Sale, Cardiff and Montpellier should all come close.

I'm not so sure about people's predictions of Ulster beating Saints...let's be honest we would have beat munster in thomond park were it not for the ref missing a knock on before howlett's try, we would have hammered Scarlets at home were it not for a blatant offside try and Ashton being incredibly lazy and if not for a poor game away from home against Munster in the last round we still could have qualified for a runner up spot. Plus we'll have quite the team next year with all of our players well and ready and with a couple of new signings. Don't write us off yet.

It's fair because it's random, but the coefficient seeding system does throw some teams (Cardiff, Biarritz, Ulster in this instance) a real bone they hardly have the pedigree for, and chuck some other teams (Ospreys, Leicester, Edinburgh) a real spanner in their domestic plans and their players international ambitions.
Still, always fun watching the Ospreys go down by 50 away in France on the opening weekend.

Think it is slightly tougher pool for Edinburgh this time around but a step up is a good thing as the squad will be stronger. I'm still getting over the Racing Metro games from last season, should have the hex over them again.

@makemehappy
I was just posting on another thread that it should only be 16 teams. Top 5 from each competition plus the champs. 1 & 2 in the pools go forward to QFs. 3rd & 4th go into 2nd round of Amlin.
That would mean Leinster, Ospreys, Munster, Glagow, Scarlets,Ulster
Harlequins, Leicester, Saracens, Northampton, Exeter.
Toulouse, Clermont, Toulon, Castres, Montpellier
No easy groups
