Pat McCabe: Surprised with call-up

Wallabies centre Pat McCabe wants to repay coach Robbie Deans for the faith he has shown in picking him for Saturday's Test against Argentina.

McCabe returns to action after barely recovering from a foot stress fracture, which has kept him on the sidelines since the beginning of last month.

And now he is determined to vindicate Deans by putting in a top class performance.

"Getting the call-up was a nice surprise because I thought it would be another week or so away," McCabe told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"It is a big vote of confidence from Robbie that he thinks I can come straight back in and play well.

"I really do appreciate that and I want to return the favour by playing well against Argentina. I feel physically that I am again ready to go."

The 24-year-old expects a tough assignment against the Pumas but believes the Wallabies will get chances on attack and hopes to take it.

"They have been hugely impressive so far and are an extremely physical team," said McCabe.

"They are a side which loves firing in and disrupting opposition ball. So you just know it is going to be a hugely physical contest.

"But they do get relatively narrow in defence and because they commit so hard to the breakdown it does create some chances for us.

"So we'll hopefully throw the ball around a bit. If we are effective at the breakdown, we will be able to do that."

hope for his sake he goes the distance uninjured - Dr Deans diagnosis that he is ok to play "after barely recovering from a foot stress fracture" surprises McCabe. Would be a pity if he has been brought back early out of desperation and is not truly ready.

I'm glad to see McCabe back, IMO he is a class act and capable of breaking opposing teams lines. He's one of the more understated players.
