Ahh Trinats you are still a few paddocks short of the full property. No my stats do not show Dingo as the worst (great use of the English language - worst). Just to remind you but those numbers are only from 1984 and only against the AB's now if you really want me to find you the "worst" coach ever, I will. As for Dingo I can also look at his overall record (remember he got your mob to No 2) against the others, I suspect a different story. Anyway glad to see you still never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Trader2:

Great stats well done, just shows Deans, a Kiwi, as worst coach ever for Australia.

nearly half (19%) of your mate A. Jones (37.5%)

Ramage:

Lost me on that one ? Sharpe is very solid, always has been for Qld (and Force)and Aus. Top bloke too.

@stag says..."ABs would win the championship with PDV at the helm" never has a truer word been written. Wallabies should focus on retaining their number 2 spot....the Boks are coming to claim it and if we had Deans it would be a walk over.

Lol there is a common thread running through the posts from Trinuts, georgesmith and jash. All have that same illogical arguments. Its no use Trinuts, trying to write as if you are a new Australian who has English as a second language. Yes Trinuts aka georgesmith and aka jash are so similar that we are on to you. Tell me Trinuts, what have you got against Nathan Sharpe?

Love all the Oz comments re Deans crap record. Well actually apart from Rod McQueen all the Wannabie coaches have been pretty ordinary. Lets just have a look at the win ratio against the AB's from 1984 to 2012 (inclusive)

Alan Jones 37.5% (inherited some of the greats)

Bob Dwyer 37.5% (great rebuild to 1991 after Jones had done their heads in)

Greg Smith 0% ( really nice guy with as we now no some terrible health issues)

Rod McQueen 77.8% (What can you say probably one of the best of all time)

Eddie Jones 25% (Like the other Jones boy inherited a very good side)

John Connelly 20% (never could work him out really)

Dingo 19% (had to start from scratch with not much to start with)

It has all been down hill since McQueen really so the trend is there and will probably scare anyone off from putting their hand up. Its very clear that once the John Eales era players retired the Wannabies have just not kept up NZ. My boring point again is cattle and in this regard Australia have not fared well in the professional game, lets face it with Super Rugby they were average with 3 teams, couldn't handle 4 and 5 is a complete disaster. Given all that you are still number 2 in the world, come on guys No 2 is the real No 1 (heard something like that recently, cannot remember where)

Aussies need to chill about Deans. As long as you guys split all your talent between league, aussie rules and other sports you're not going to be #1. I've always thought that the Australia could be number one, if all the great league plays were union.

the simplest resolution to the coach drama and the wallabies dislike of being number twos, is suggested today on an australian site.

The idea is that the wallabies 1. no longer play the all blacks and 2. have their own world ranking system where they are always number one. this will keep the fans and management happy. drama solved.

@2EyedKiwi, I hear you, although in this instance it's not about mates but allegiances. Like Hansen, Deans is and will always be a Kiwi, as a result Hansen will always have a more favourable opinion of Deans than a neutral. My opinion (granted it is an opinion) won't change if it was a Saffa commending a Saffa, a Pom commending a Pom, etc etc.

I trust this now makes more sense and provides more sensibility in this instance.

Deans has taken the Wallabies from 4th/5th to 2nd in the world & since the rankings were introduced in 2004, 2nd has been the Wallabies best ever position.

The Wallabies historically have losing records against 2 teams & they are the All Blacks & the Springboks. Against the Springboks Deans has established a record of 8 wins from 12, including 5 of the Last 6 & featuring a 50% record in the republic. It would be rare for any Australia coach to have a winning record like that over the Springboks.

The whole criticism of Deans starts & finishes with his record against the All Blacks. 14 losses from 17.... in any normal era that would be a disappointing stat but even before Deans came in, the AB's had won 9 of the last 12 tests against a Wallabies side that had a lot more experience then it has had since the 07 WC when Deans took over.

The AB's over the last decade haven't been any normal AB's side. They've been the most dominant AB's side in history, winning at 85% for nearly 10 years. They don't have a soft underbelly, a lack of experience or depth, or unreliable players in key positions. They are a consistency machine that has rarely broken down.

Over that same period the Wallabies have struggled with depth especially, depth is key to any successful Rugby side as injuries are imminent in such a physical sport. The top 15 - 22 players are a very formidable team but that's probably the extent of it.

Look I think the Wallabies need to change up the coaching staff because they're not getting the performances they desire & I do think an Australian born & bred coach has the potential to get more out of his players from a motivational point of view. Don't be at all suprised if Deans was actually doing pretty good job though.

@Trinats

I try to ignore your comments, but today you go too far. You say:

""What idiot wouldn't want a loser on the opposite side who as coach failed to score a point for first time in 50 years ...""

What did the Aussies' donut have to do with Deans? Skipper Genia could have chosen to take any of those kickable penalties in the second half if he had been intent on avoiding the zero. Just as the British and Irish Lions did in Dunedin in 2005, when, to some derision, they kicked a futile penalty to lose 22-3.

But as you say, if you are Australian, that kind of decision doesn't cut it. The Wallabies wanted more than just to avoid the zero. They wanted a victory, or a bonus point defeat, or at least to go down fighting. As you would expect.

Really, I often wonder whether you are Australian at all, or just some Briton having a fantasy and trolling at the same time

Incidentally, I find all this talk about the Aussies being held to zero meaningless. The team were seeking tries, not face-saving threes.

This just posted on Stuff.co.nz explains a bit.

However, if every coach in world rugby was judged solely by their results against the All Blacks, they would all have their heads on the chopping block - not just Deans.

Yes, the Wallabies have won just three of 17 games against the New Zealanders since Deans's tenure began in 2008. But, this All Blacks side, World Cup holders and Bledisloe Cup owners, might well go down as the most dominant in the nation's illustrious rugby history.

Since 2008, the All Blacks have played 62 matches, with a winning percentage of 84 per cent. South Africa, who have been the All Blacks' most successful opponents in recent years, have a winning record of just 45 per cent against them, with five wins from 11 matches since 2008. That makes the All Blacks the most dominant side in world rugby of the past five years.

Along with the Springboks and France, Australia is the only other side to upset the world champions.

Of the All Blacks' 10 defeats since 2008, Deans's Wallabies account for almost a third of them.

Cheers

Whoop nearly there, only 100 years and counting.

"To spell it out for you, you are obviosly interlectually inpared (window licker) they were sating"

Yep, nice spelling.

Heh, heh isn't it great looking at Trinats screaming and ranting and flaying his fists in the air. As Ferdie pointed out they are now ranked 2nd, not 4th when Dingo took them over and @Bones7 you say a coach should be able to get a "sub-par bunch" working effectively, you are right they are "sub-par" but are No2 in the world, I would call that a good effort from the coach that has rubbish to put on the field week after week.

as i've sad in earlier posts australians should stop their whining, deans has taken the wallabies from a ranking of 4th in june 2008, to 3rd the next two years and up to second. what would eg wales do for stats like that? right now would be like expecting the nz football team to beat brazil. but next year could be different (in rugby, not the football one); a constant whine re the coach yet never one single headline on the players' poor performance.

what was the half-time talk on saturday? at 0-9 had they really given up? other teams may think they were still in it at half-time, yet wallabies came back out with more aimless kicks, some decent defence but lef the attack part in the change room.
