Guys, you have to look for the clues. His beard says he's joining Foley.

Carlos was had some tricks and a real turn of speed but like S.B.W. he got jumped on for the odd error . Its the way of the world.
I certainly forgave him the odd error .

I remember when Carlos carved up an AB stacked Auckland team in a 60m try playing for Horowhenua (I think) when he was only 16. Then they interviewed him after the game beer in one hand and cigarette in the other.

My lasting memory of Carlos Spencer is still the image of him getting steamrollered by Bok prop Richard Bands - still the best try by an international prop ever - watch it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0Y5Fkb4YOg

There's a difference between being able to do something and being able to teach it.
I am told he did many good things as a player.
My main memory of Carlos Spencer is how he single-handedly dismantled the All Black 2003 World Cup effort. Living in Melbourne, I saw the opening pool game against Italy where his skitteriness saw him running into Umaga and knocking him out of the tournament with a leg injury.
That led to Leon McDonald being put into the team that played Australia, a game in which Spencer ran out of ideas, tried to do the skittery thing again, and got munched. Repeatedly. No team Plan B. Bye bye All Blacks.
Maybe he's a good coach and all the people who rate him highly are right to do so. But I can't see it. This is a good move by the Lions.

Looking at that photo of Spenser, I reckon he spent the first half hour of each Lions training session in from of a mirror getting his head band "just so."

The Stormers/W Province should be talking to Carlos as a matter of urgency.

and yet they keep their spot in the S15 ??
Between the Lions and the Force shenanigans.. maybe we can get back to a S14 set up with a few less rounds!

what a mess: "Taylor and Spencer were given assurances from the union four weeks ago that their jobs would be safe despite Mitchell's expected departure only to be told by email that their contracts had been terminated."
By email! 'thanks a lot'.
Spencer: "They looked me in the eye and said there was nothing to worry about.... I don't mind being fired, but the way was it was done left a bitter taste."
In an interview when he last visited NZ fo a charity event (Nov 2011), Spencer said he wouldn't return to NZ, wanted to stay in SA, or as second option, UK.
At this stage of the season wouldn't all the other Currie Cup jobs be finalised/contracted? which may leave UK as only option.

Maybe the Lions are about to be rebranded as the Turkeys???
While the political aspects of the Kings riles me, I actually think the Lions deserve to lose their slot in the S15. How can SA's wealthiest province with the biggest player pool be in such a mess, bankrupt in terms of players and finances?

In terms of rumours floating around, my understanding of the situation is that Spencer's been linked to the Blues... Makes sense, given his history as a player and their recent coaching turnover... Maybe he'll be added to Kirwan's team.
I wonder how the turnaround time in the announcements will compare with the Foley/Waratahs/Western Force situation!
With regards to Strauss, it looks like a smart move to me. He's a great loose forward, but he's not getting much of a look as far as the Springboks go... I guess he decided to give himself every possible advantage and shed the added responsibility of captaincy.

The Lions are really up to their eyeballs here.
On a positive note, do you think we could tempt Carlos Spencer into the English coaching set up? We could do with some of his flair to get our back line sparking...
