I think most true Highlanders fans will definately be sad to see him go. People have to forget the notion that a player is only good if you see him doing the flashy stuff, the big hits etc. Highlight reel kind of stuff. If you watch the games again, Haskell did alot of donkey work and he did bring physicality to the game too. It's a hard move him having to play openside when he's cleary a blindside so, again, he's managed to do really well in that respect too. Jamie Joseph would not have picked him if he didn't think he was up to standard and he most certainly is.
Never mind the fact that he's a classy bloke and pretty much well liked as a person (and I guess as a NH ambassador in some respects), he definately added to the highlanders team. Penalty count or not, he bloody well gave his all and we as Highlanders fans salute that.
Thanks for everything James!

Heard him interviewed on Talksport Radio in NZ the other day and he came across as a decent guy. Sadly he was just not up to speed in Super Rugby especially in the NZ conference matches... too slow, poor skills and gave away far too many penalties.

@ three6three6 et al - the England EPS and Saxons' squads have been announced. He's in the Saxons. So, barring injury to others, he'll not feature in the 6N.
(And Armitage isn't in either!!)
And, with the likes of Fearns, Johnson, Kvesic and others coming through, he'll be lucky to get a full cap again and I can't see a Lions call-up either.
Shame.

James Haskell is a quality rugby player..... However, he did take a while to adjust to the Highlander's style of play and the Super tugby competition. He has been criticised for giving away too many penalties and there is no doubt that his suspension probably robbed him of the opportunity to build some real momentum. Haskell will need to play a blinder during the 2013 6 Nations in order to even come close to being selected for the Lions.

Robshaw, Haskell, Armitage, Wood, Waldrom, Croft, Dowson, Johnson, Morgan, Fearns, Gibson, (Lawes and Launchbury too...), etc.
A lot of back-row talent there for us to choose from.
It depends where we want Robshaw to play, I reckon, and whether any of them will consider a positional switch and, if so, how successful that would be.
Armitage was the best 7 in the NH last season and I can't see his form dropping. And Croft (on Lion's form) should be a shoo-in, especially in the line-out.
But Waldrom and Haskell brought a certain physicality in the third test, which was good to see.
And Fearns and Johnson were excellent all tour.
Nice problem to have.

Haskell has done well at the landers. Should do well in the England jersey as adjusted to Test rugby seemlessly it would seem( other than few handling errors). He and Waldrom looking likely as a combo for the Autumn tests and 6N

Strange, during the world cup England players complained about being bored in Dunedin. But I guess James Haskell is a rare bird. After all, here he is in New Zealand, when few English rugby players or footballers play overseas. So maybe Haskell is more open-minded and curious than most of his country's top-flight sportsmen.

I bet there won't be many Highlanders fans sad to see him leave, I really felt Haskel may have been a success story, N-Hem player setting the S-Hem competition alight, but this sadly this was not the case and the only he set alight was the Highlanders penalty count. I hope he doesn't get selected by the Lions, then again with Warburton, Robshaw, O'Brian and Armitage eying up the #7 shirt I cant see there being much room for him.
