@tha_mai you should know by now that Trinats never lets the truth get in the way of a good story and actually he is probably right the Wannabies do have a good record when they play the AB's with SBW, they only lost by 16 and 14 ponts respectively, not the usual thumping.

Will we see SBW target an Origin series win for his journeyman CV?
Presumably he's met the 3 year stand down period for international rugby league re: Nation swapping. The residency criteria is very very ambiguous and as such provides scope of liberal interpretation.

Trinats2 says...we want him in the ABs (great record for Aus when he plays !!!!)
? He has only played Australia twice in his 17-test career (6 Aug win 30-14 and 16 Oct 2011 win 20-6), on as a sub both times (Nonu rules!), and on a winning team twice.
He has only been on a losing AB team only once in his career, v SA 20 Aug 2011. A 94% win record.
So, back to your argument ???

Sonny's gone, but in his short stint in rugby he has revolutionised the way the offload is used in Union. It has become the main weapon for the all blacks and chiefs, enabling them to get behind defences. Love him or hate him, you have to admit his awesomeness, and he is without a doubt the best 12 in NZ at the moment. I have sincere hope of him returning for the next WC, he'll have to start at the bottom just as he did when he returned to play for Canterbury.
@fattysock i believe Nonu's absence from the Irish series was to freshen him up for the championship. The AB coaches still rate him highly and i think he will be back in 12 for the Championship. DC at 12 isn't an option with how the ABs play. That would require a deeper back line alignment, something not in the ABs vocab. I can't think of any others that were near his level as you say.

How was his world cup ? Thought he came on for a minute, text book or his "trade mark" shoulder charge, and spent the rest in the bin ! I forgot he was playing in the WC until that.
Oh, I left out the powerhouse of rugby Japan, where he shined !!!! then again, I didn't watch it.
Joking aside, I do think he is a good player, just not a great which he is built up to be, bit like your winger "the new Lomu" 3 tries one week against a poor Irish team, and he was poor the next against a good team effort from Ireland, then dropped.
As for playing for Aus, only Kiwi good enough was Brad Thorn (and maybe, just maybe McCaw (I did say "was" !!!!!). I'd also take Kaino, the Samoan (American) but NZ got him first !!!
Only game I saw him for the Chiefs was against an injury hit Reds team, and we all know the result there !!!!

If he DOES announce that he's leaving, would you still pick him for the Rugby Championship??
I don't know if I would. It would be a kick in the nuts to Nonu for one thing...
And as good as SBW seems to be getting at rugby, we have other players who aren't far off his level. Heck, even a shift from 10->12 for DC while bringing in Cruden would be fine for me if we are struggling for other options at 12.

Money Bill Williams living up to his name, he'll be gone off the radar in 3 or 4 years as soon as his form dips slightly as he shows no loyalty to club or country and can expect the same in return. He's a fad, a designer good - disposable.

Shut it Trinats... if he was a Dingo "shrimp on the barbie" Larry he would be the 1st choice wannabies centre by miles. Hes played damn brilliantly all season for the Chiefs too.
Oh and he won a World Cup.

The real shame here is that league, great sport that it is, is only played by 2-3 countries, which means a waste of Sonny's talent. It's a sport which is pretty much going nowhere , a lot like Australian rugby which is nearly dead, and would be if it weren't for the imports... even their U20s are declining year on year. Hope SBW can bring a few smiles and love to the place, even if he is cashing a massive Australian cheque and crushing it with your ladies.

Its common knowledge in rugby league circles that he will be at Bondi Junction next year.

Pity he is going back to League, where the money is. As an Aussie we want him in the ABs (great record for Aus when he plays !!!!)
But after the expense of the RWC (and I'm not saying pay outs to refs....) NZ can't afford him.
"It's been pleasing [in the recent series] to know that I can compete at that level."
Two good games at HOME against Ireland and Japan doesn't show you can compete at Int level (maybe for NZ standards).
Money Bill.....................goooooooone

Even if he does leave he may well come back, after all he is still only 26. His new thing is to sign 1 year contracts which is a good idea for him as he really got caught out with the long term contract he signed at the Bulldogs & is a pro in 3 different sports.
The Rugby League World cup is next year, so if the rumours are true I'm sure he'd have that in mind. Wherever he goes I'll be supporting.

if his coach and the nzru ceo know what he's doing and won't say i think thats a strong indication that he's going. otherwise no one would have any problem just saying yeah he's going to stay.

Sonny Bill is a media magnet.
The hype that followed him from league was huge.
He is now starting to deliver on the field, what his manager and the media, promised off it.
It would be shame for the game if he were to leave now, as I suspect the best is yet to come.
