Digby Ioane break for Reds against Cheetahs

The opener: Digby Ioane

The Reds scored an impressive six tries in an all-action Super Rugby showing that stunned the Cheetahs 41-8 at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

A brace apiece for Rod Davies and Will Genia to go with tries from Digby Ioane and Saia Faingaa showed the gulf in attacking class in Brisbane.

Victory makes it 94 points scored in two rounds for the men from Queensland, which stands them in good stead for a visit to the Lions next week.

It took the Reds sixteen minutes to get on the board though as a small gap was spotted in the Cheetahs defence 20 metres out. From there the ball was pushed back inside to wing Ioane who strolled over unopposed. That try followed a couple of wayward shots at goal from Quade Cooper, who was hot and cold on the day.

However that score had brought both the crowd and the home team to life as they went about their usual attacking business, with Cooper breaking on halfway before handing on to his paceman Davies. He didn't have to wait long for his second.

That brace-score was his highlight too as he beat three tacklers in a small amount of space on the right-hand touchline to cross as the Reds cruised to a 24-3 lead on the half-hour.

Faingaa then crossed with a pick-and-go as the game appeared done and dusted.

Ewen McKenzie did have one eye on their long upcoming journey after the break but it hardly showed as Genia took over the responsibilities with a brace of his own - after vomiting on the field post being on the end of a big hit I might add. It was Willie Beamen-esque.

The Cheetahs did up their game late on however and skipper Wilhelm Steenkamp made up for his earlier yellow card with a late try that was only a small consolation for the visitors.

Man-of-the-match: Rod Davies showed his finishing class at times but will hurting after blowing his hat-trick chance. But for his organisation we go for Will Genia. Spirit was shown to carry on after being on the end of a painful tackle and he got his reward with two scores.
