logophile - ripia was doing ok (and then they caught him). hes back playing rugby now for bay of plenty development squad, maybe make their itm cup team

a difference in this recruitment is that as a condition of his contract ripia was selected for force on basis he could represent australia, be eligible for wallabies as he had not been an ab. nz maori does not count in that respect.

matthewson has been capped, so ineligible, there to play for force nothing more

good luck to him; i can't think he'd have been too pleased when weepu followed him to blues, as a reason he left hurricanes must have been to get more game time

Let's hope he fairs better than ol' Willie Ripia.

just plain dumb... if Genia goes down, Aussie rugby will disintegrate coz the next lot of halfs are plain crap.

but on the other hand, this is good news for the Blues as it gives a chance to one of the younger guys to step-up and learn from Weepu.

This is another example of why I feel like Super Rugby should be sacrificed in favor of the Currie Cup, ITM and the as yet non-existant Australian domestic competition; which would then send their champions to play in a global Heineken Cup against the NH club teams. The players say they're playing too much rugby and yet here we have an Australian team which clearly has no feeder system to maintain it's franchise. For Mathewson's international career he probably should've made this move before accepting an All Black cap.

Another kiwi, going to play for an australian team ,,this is going to happen more and more in coming years ,as without a national competion, theres no where for young australian players to hone and develop their skill set even to S15 leval .There will be more overseas players playing in the S15 for australian teams even europeansThe long slow decline of australian rugby has begun in earnest 2012/13.
