Healy cited for stamping

11th February 2013 15:19

SKY_MOBILE Cian Healy - Ireland - 9/6/12

Cited: Cian Healy

Ireland prop Cian Healy has been cited for his stamp on England tighthead Dan Cole during last Sunday's fixture in Dublin.

The alleged act of foul play is contrary to Law 10.4 (b).

The player's hearing, before an independent Six Nations Disciplinary Committee appointed by Professor Lorne Crerar, Chairman of the Six Nations Disciplinary Panel, will be held in London on Wednesday 13 February 2013.

The minimum entry point for stamping varies from two weeks to nine weeks depending on severity.

Only 2 weeks since he is Irish. You read it here before.

@bokbevok - how can his foot be in the air AND slowing the ball down - do they filled the ball with helium?

Although that could explain Jonathan Davies' voice.

Nobody has mentioned Healey's disciplinary record so far. Has he shown this type of behaviour before ? If his record is not that bad, then I suspect that would be taken into consideration. Also, if Cole had sustained serious injuries, then that too would be a factor. But it seems Cole is ok. If it had been Hartley who had done it then I'm quite sure no-one would be suggesting anything less than the maximum possible ban. See what I mean ?

So I'm thinking something in the middle of the range will be applied. Perhaps 4 weeks which would rule him out of the 6N but not Lions consideration. If I were Gatland, I'd probably have a quiet word with Healey to ask if he wanted to be on that plane. My guess is the answer would be yes. This was a stupid act but it doesn't make Healey a bad player.

I don't see why some people on here are saying it's acceptable to stamp on someone's ankle when they're nowhere near the ball (even if they are lay on the wrong side) the fact remains that it's cheap and dirty and probably calculated (on his opposite number) and he should get 4-6 weeks for it, in reality he'll probably only get 1-3 weeks. I won't call out the citing commissioner yet but my guess is the ban will be a farce...

I'm pretty sure that when watching the clipof this from different angles, that Murray has the ball in his hands when the stamp comes in. Therefore it was TOTALLY injustified.

Any suggestion that this is acceptable behaviour is ridiculous and stupid. And comments defending this stamping are clearly made by people who don't understand or even like the great game of rugby. There is no place for this in the game. You can't defend it.

BackingLeinster- Citings aren't based on how ma ny TV replays are shown to the audience at home.Lol. The opposing team usually brings the citing commisioners attention to an incident. In which case it wouldn't matter a jot if the TV cameras missed it completely.

@bokbevok - Unfortunately you have just shown you true colours. Yes, Cole was on the wrong side. We all agre with that. However, he was NOT near the ball and not stopping it coming out. If he was over the ball he should get a few studs down his back. That would be deserved. This was a downward stamp on his leg which was intended to injure. That's why he has been sighted you muppet. Who gets sighted for raking a player on the wrong side of a ruck? Nobody! If you'd played the game you would have a different view or are you a typical Bok thug? If someone had done that to you, you would have cried like a baby. Still at least your comment is in line with your usual drivel so I'll give you credit for consistency.

Get over it, he was on the wrong side foot in the air slowing ball down. If ref had done his job and give penalty for not trying to get out the way it wouldn't of happened.

Man up for god sake.

5 weeks. Could have cost us two key Lions props if the ankle had broken.

This was a nasty spineless act and he should get a few weeks. I hate it when players think that it is fair game to risk hurting someone badly when they are defenseless on the floor. What if his leg got broken and that would be his season and Lions Tour over? Could easily have happened. Saying that, and in all fairness to Healy, I'm not sure if he has been sighted before or if he has, when the last one was. Therefore it is out of character. I too don't buy the "reduced for good behaviour" shite as an offence is an offence. What do you do at the hearing, cry and plead with the judge or be polite and say yes sir to everything? Jeeze!! He'll get two weeks and 1 less for "good behaviour" bollocks and he will play against Scotland. It is not Cain Healy's fault that the system is a farce. On the bright side he'll continue as normal and be able to get his bags packed for the Lions Tour as he would ordinarily be a shoe-in.

The thug should get maximum for the dirty swinging arm as well

There was no citing of the Welsh player (I think it was Tipuric) who walked on Sextons face either...

Slightly off point however.. 2 weeks sounds about right with a weeks reduction.

TurtyTree says...

How does citing work now? I don't remember anyone from Wales being cited for dancing on Jonny Sexton's head last week... Although maybe a few of the higher ups secretly felt he might deserve it for taking the horse to France...

BackingLeinster says...

It will be dealt with as low entry since no damage was done. He'll get two weeks and then get it reduced to 1 because he pleaded guilty and has good record. Can't recall the last time he was cited. Effectively it will be a non ban. He should at least miss the Scotland game but if he does it will go against every other ban handed out in the last year which were all far too lenient.

Still though there was no citing for the player who dropped the knee into connor murray's back. Yes he was on the wrong side of the rook but the ball was between him and the scrum half who had no trouble getting at it yet someone decided to knee him in the back anyway. If the RTE producer had of noticed that one and replayed it a few times like the Healy incident then maybe there would have been a citing.

I have a bad feeling about this.

If they decide to make an example of him and give him 6-8 weeks I think Cian can Kiss his Lions place goodbye. Which would be such a shame given how well he's played this season for one act of Stupidity to take that away from him.

He only has himself to blame.

melkdave says...

Reckon he will get 1-2 week ban ,which will mean nothing as far as the 6Ns is concerned,he may miss the Scotland game thats it.But like ROG before him he will get a reduction to 1 week and as such the ban is worthless.Hope this attidude doesnt persit ,as its making the IRB look total fools atm.Rather than gidelines what is recommened needs to be the minium manditory ban for that offence Good conduc ect before the offence just shouldnt matter.

Spin the Disciplinary Wheel of Fortune and see where it stops. Anywhere from being let off completely to chemical castration and a firing squad.

2 week ban and a weeks reduction for behaviour... I.E. nothing.

And the wheel forever keeps on turning...

4-6 weeks would be acceptable, though emotionally 9 weeks sounds a lot better and would send out a much stronger message.
