@ makemehappy - need a cloth for that egg? It's all over you face, my friend.

@APV1 - you're not entirely right on the communication concept - its both!

Returning to the rugby issue, I agree that I have seen him scrummage well. I have also seen him scrummage poorly. He is young for a prop, and might become a very good prop. At the moment, the inconsistency means that he isn't top draw.

@ makemehappy - you're right - he's 2nd in line at his club level. To, arguably, the number 1 TH Prop in the world at the moment (certainly one of the best - top 3, I would suggest). But look who DC's learning from - the #1 th prop in the world. And look how old he is - 24 - plenty of games in him for many years. Compare that to AJ (30) and MC (also 30). I know who I want on my developing team. And if you expect AJ to be the sole th prop on the Lions tour, I'm worried that you don't watch as much rugby as you claim to.

It's a bit like suggesting that all other fly halfs in the world are rubbish, because Carter's better. It's nonsense.

The problem is that you think that just because he's 2nd to MC, that makes him pants. Even if you haven't expressly stated as much, you have insinuated it (remember - communication is about the message received, not the message sent). He is a fantastic prop and to suggest otherwise is just daft.

@APV1 - so that is a fact is it LOL! Watch a bit more rugby and you will not too infrequently see Cole under pressure. He did play well against France. Don't remember him being that impressive otherwise. Just remember - 2nd choice at the club - enough said. Thanks for using an article that confirms my point LOL - checkmate there Im afraid. Who do you want in your Lions team - Cole or Jones? I know who the Aussies will want, and it isn't the welshman! Remember what he did out in SA after the Englishman let us all down.

Ireland aren't the best scrummaging team in the world, but do you remember http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/mar/19/six-nations-2011-ireland-england-player-ratings worrying to be second best in the scrum there isn't it? Noted he was OK in the loose that day, but you dont win games by being pushed back in the scrum!

@lawynd - we keep on trotting it out, as sadly there are some rude idiots (rude taken from the tone of your email, and idiot due to ignoring the clear rational), that think a second choice club prob is a top draw international. Castro plays the bulk of the big games, so sorry, that means he is first choice. Let's be fair, he is just a lot better than Cole!! I've seen Cole have a few poor games this year, but not Castro.

As for how well they played against Wales, just look at the penalty stats. I really thought Gethin had his number that day. There were binding issues with Adam (twice I noticed), but lets be fair, that's got more to do with the stupid rules and stupid application. England lost out to the Lions props. But you'd expect that of course.

Now don't be so rude, and swallow humble pie! Enjoy your timeshare (what a load of rubbish you talk).

@ makemehappy - Don't take our word for it, have a look at this PR Team of the Year article:

http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3818_7389161,00.html

Now have a look who's listed at 3. And who else gets a "Mention in Dispatches".

Now tell me Cole's not worthy of a mention. MC is one of the best props in the world at the moment. No arguing that point, please. To alternate the starting berth with him just shows how good DC actually is. And, whilst Cockers has gone down in my estimations since his outbursts about Twelvetrees, he undeniably knows a lot more than we do about playing in the FR at the top level.

lawynd says...

@makemehappy - why do you and others keep trotting out this 'not even first choice at his club' nonsense about Cole? Bear in mind that he's effectively in a timeshare with one of the best tightheads in the world, he and Castro generally play about the same amount of time for Leicester over the course of a season. Sometimes Castro starts, sometimes Cole does. Leicester just have the luxury of having several fantastic props is all. Regardless, Cole has been more effective in the scrum and loose than most props this tournament, as evidenced in particular by the game against France. Healy might be slightly better in the loose but hasn't been as strong a scrummager and the only reason the Welsh props seems so indomitable at the moment is because no referee has pinged them for binding on the arm at every scrum; even then, they didn't really get the better of Cole and Corbisiero, did they?

If it is just MOTM players who get shortlisted its a very flawed system .There have been many stand out players this yearThe only way to get a proper award is for either the players to vote on the opposistion not my preferred way if im honest as after losing your judgement might not be all its supposed to be lol or a panal to select a player after the tourament taking in a players performance as a whole over the championship.Until then its just best to ignore it

@bluelion - Lydiate not played as well as Denton? You obviously don't like having someone doing the hard and dirty work in your team. A must for me all the time my 15! Denton has done well, but Lydiate is your man on the blindside, without a shadow of a doubt.

Certainly Fofana should be there if just based on the 6N.

Can't believe someone suggested Cole should be there LOL! Not even a first choice Leicester player!

also no fofana, for example Fofana and Kearney have been far better than Malzieu and Cuthbert. And hasn't Warburton only played 2 games? ridiculous.

You're on the money kybone and convince regarding Tualigi, without him England would be quite different and less effective.

Sheepversuslynx, totally agree with you re Halfpenny, notwithstanding that I'm a Leinster/Ireland supporter and think Rob Kearney has been fantastice during this 6 Nations, the difference has been that Halfpenny will probably be remembered for being the difference under pressure between Wales winning the Grand Slam and not winning it, so he should be in. Though I do think it's crazy announcing a short list with a game to go

Posted 19:10 14th March 2012

DaveJ says...

are you taking the piss, no Kearney, Ferris or Halpenny? absolute madness

Posted 19:09 14th March 2012

sheepversuslynx says...

In my opinion, Halfpenny deserves a spot on this list. He has had a fantastic tournament, despite the yellow card

Posted 17:29 14th March 2012

kybone says...

Just the simple fact that, in a 5 game competition, the shortlist is drawn up with a game to go is absolutely ridiculas. What if George North scores 4 against France on saturday, or Tuilagi has another stormer against Ireland ( would be his 3rd in a row), or Bowe gets ANOTHER couple of tries against England. Just stupid. And then the wrong players are on the list anyway! If Ryan has played enough to be considered then i can't believe Tuilagi is not there given the way he has almost single handedly brought a new dimension to England. I can't believe the tournemant top try scorer isn't there baring in mind he could break the record for most tries in a championship. Fofana should be in......i could go on!!! Nobody really pays a great deal of attention this award, and its the fact that it just doesn't reflect whats been happening which is probably to blame. The 6N player of the year should be a prestigeous award but its been turned into a farce.

Parisse has to have it in the bag if not on merit then as a consolation

Ignore the list it's just those who have got MOTM which is the most ridculous way to work it out so a complete nothing award as half the list haven't even played half the games!

blametheref says...

No Halfpenny, no Fofana, no Healy, no Farrell, no Gray, no Sense; announcing players before the final round is plain daft

Hats off to the 6N. This list is even worse than PR's Team of the Week!

quietbrit says...

Terrible list. Who picked it? It isn't enough to be best in an important position where no one is standing out... It also isn't enough to have had 1 blinding game just before the nomination...

Where are Ferris, Kearney, Grey, Fofona?

Given that I'm an Eng supporter that should say quite a bit...

Posted 13:05 14th March 2012

Anyone else know if this is just a list of the MOTM winners? Is that the qualifying criteria?
