Sale captain Dan Braid will miss the rest of the Premiership season as the Sharks fight for the playoffs.
Although making the top four seems unlikely with Sale eight points behind Leicester with two games to go, Braid has been an influential figure since joining the club in January 2013.
The former Blues and Reds flanker was nominated last week for the Premiership Player of the Season award.
Hailed for his leadership, losing Braid for the final two matches of the season will be a blow to Steve Diamond's side.
Braid has scored seven tries this season but hasn't played for Sale since March.
His recruitment was last season was viewed as a turning point in the Sharks' fight against relegation - one which they ultimately survived as London Welsh went down.
