@ ArmchairGeneral - if memory serves, Wilko started at 13, moved to 12 and then to 10. So back to 12 wouldn't be setting a precedent. Having him in the 2015 squad might work, a bit like Catt did for him, as a support for the younger 10s. Maybe in a back-room support role, rather than a player though. I wouldn't want a player's spot given to him really.

@ jamesliveinhope - Hear! Hear! Unfortunately Heathcote's just got injured, but he's doing great things with Bath and in the junior England set-ups. I also agree that Donald is a bit odd, but he's probably a good mentor!

@ Chubbylugs - "In floods defence..." Not his strongest point! ;-)

In floods defence, he plays much more on the gain line than both Farrell and ford. His distribution is the best of all English 10s IMHO. He's far more likely to get a back line moving. We spend too much time focussing on line breaks and goal kicking as key criteria for english 10s. More critical for England is who plays at 9. Whilst dickson's running game is not in the same class as young / care, he is the only 9 who will pass the ball from the base of a ruck (ie not take 2 steps to pass) this is more critical for England than who plays 10

@armchairgeneral - don't forget Heathcote, V. highly regarded at Bath.

I think we are seeing the Wilkinson effect - the Fords and Heathcotes were playing Tag and mini rugby when Johnno was lifiting the World Cup - all of these kids wanted to be Wilkinson and a re perhaps reaping the benefit of having the odd SH mentor wearing the 10 jersey as they came through the academies.

Is it just me or is Toby Flood way too over rated? I think he's a boring player...

Exciting year for England 10s coming up... For the fans. I hope Lancaster keeps an open mind re Flood, Ford, Farrell, Burns, Cipi, Geraghty. I hope Toulon push Wilko to 12 with Michelak entering the mix and Giteau to 13. If Wilko turns out to be a great 12... 2015 drop goal in the final... anyone? Dream on.

Is it my imagination or are AP teams bringing in less SHem backs these days?

@jamesliveinhope

It's probably not too bad, at that age your putting weight on anyway.

@Bones7

Has Flood really bottled loads of internationals as your saying, personally i think your way off!

Bones7 says...

Not a fan of Flood but he is good at Tigers. The amount of internationals he's bottled horribly must keep him out of an England shirt in my book

Hmm, I wonder who's contract is up first, both must be considering themselves as 2015 contenders and whilst competition for places is a healthy place to be from a coaching perspective, with every comepetition there has to be a loser and I cannot see Cockerill rotating the 10.

On another note - 10 kg is nearly 2 stone in a summer - I really do worry about the pressure these kids are put under to bulk up.

Flood has always been england's first choice. he's just had a frustratingly injury prone season and Farrel was given some usful experience and learnt that he's got to work on his attacking game. Ford's opportiunity for game time with Leicester is a very interesting subject though. I mean, do you move flood to 10 and so weaken his england creditials? and what then for Anthony Allen who's been fantastic for leicester at 12??? Its going to be a good juggling act from Cockeril.
