Bath bring in Stringer

Peter Stringer Saracens Heineken Cup

Experienced: Peter Stringer

Bath have confirmed the signing of experienced Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer as short-term injury cover.

Stringer is a hugely experienced scrum-half, being one of nine players to make over 200 appearances for Munster, and the most-capped scrum-half for Ireland with 98 caps. He has played in three Heineken Cup finals, including scoring in the win over Biarritz in 2006.

"Peter is a world class professional and has an incredible amount of experience he can bring to the squad," said Bath boss Gary Gold.

"He is still keen to compete at the highest level, and we are short at scrum-half at the moment due to injury. I'm sure he'll be a huge asset to our other nine's with his invaluable experience and exceptional work ethic."

We had to make a signing, and this is a good one - Macmillan is dreadful.

This guy is still probably the best scrum half in Munster, and best passer of the ball in Ireland. Think Bath are getting extremely good cover, and is a loss to Munster, not sure what Penny sees in Duncan Williams

@ jamesliveinhope - easy now. No rash decisions please. I think the head-dress would clash with the Blue, balck and White anyway.

@ Frooschman - not a fan? I always thought he was pretty good. And as cover, he's not a bad shout. He's played at all levels and in many competitions, so should bring good experience. Not sure as a long-term option though.

Is he now a roving "consultant" scrum-half??

Still, expect the money is good!

@APV1 excellent temporary cover - unfortunately the news was delivered to me by someone who doesn't understand the reasoning behind "short-term" contract so didn't bother to include that bit in his "news".

I will confess that I was on the internet enquiring after Exeter season ticket prices the split second before I read the article properly.
