Argentina head coach Santiago Phelan hailed his side after they claimed just their second win in Wales on Saturday, with a 26-12 victory claimed in Cardiff.

The Pumas backed up their impressive efforts in the Rugby Championship with a superb victory against a Welsh side that came off second best.

And that left coach Phelan delighted with his men, who will take on France and finally Ireland in their remaining November international fixtures.

"We are very happy with our performance today. The team took the initiative in the first 20 minutes and played very well in the second half, moving the ball and keeping possession," he said.

"The intensity of the game was very high, but the Argentinian players have had a good experience playing in the Rugby Championship and have learned to play at this intensity.

"Today was a good step forward for our team in terms of intensity and tempo and scoring points, which was one of our major goals for this game."

An immensely proud Argentina skipper Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe added: "This is a great win for us. We have been searching for this win for a long time as a group.

"The most important thing for us was to try to get that first win. We are happy to do it against such a good team."

Still too early to say that Argentina has definitely moved to another level, but it certainly looks great!

I think they were always close, and just a few tweaks, intensity and selection consistency would get them there, competitive against anybody. The win against Wales is therefore not really a surprise. They weren't far from taking 1 or 2 big SH scalps already in their first year!

So dear NH, please get used to Argentina soon usurping at least the 4th spot in the rankings!

This would mean, for example, a possible clean sweep of the 1st spots in future RWC groups for the SH, LOVE IT!

i knew they would improve by playing the big 3 in a tournament but i didnt think it would be this quick. well done to them and most importantly keep it up and dont be inconsistent
