Dan Lydiate: Injury not as bad as initially feared

Wales flanker Dan Lydiate has vowed to bounce back from the broken ankle he suffered in the Dragons' PRO12 win over Edinburgh on Friday.

Lydiate underwent surgery on Monday and although he will miss Wales' end-of-year Tests, he plans to return to action in three to four months and hopes to be involved in the latter stages of the Six Nations.

Last season's Six Nations player of the tournament said he received a tremendous boost from the messages he received from supporters and fellow players.

"I just want to thank everyone for their kind messages," Lydiate told Walesonline.

"It's much appreciated and it has really helped lift my spirits after what happened on Friday night.

"I've bounced back from injury before and I will look to do that again."

It was intially feared that Lydiate had broken and dislocated his ankle, which would have meant his season was over.

X-rays, however, revealed that although a bone was broken in his ankle, there was no dislocation.

That means he is set to feature in the Six Nations and also realise his dream of playing for the British and Irish Lions on next year's tour to Australia.

Hope he waits until his ankle is better, before trying to bounce back!
