No sanction for Walsh

Steve Walsh referee 2012

In the clear: Steve Walsh

Australian referee Steve Walsh will not be sanctioned for his performance in the Reds' 18-12 win over the Hurricanes last weekend.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett complained about the New Zealand-born match official's showing and although Sanzar referees boss Lyndon Bray admitted Walsh got some decisions wrong in the final quarter of the match, he was happy with his overall performance.

"Mark feels Steve didn't have a very good day," Bray told New Zealand's Newstalk ZB.

"My argument to that was I don't think it was too bad, but I absolutely support that at a critical part of the game we got a couple wrong.

"I can understand that frustration, but across the game I don't think there's much argument other than Steve had a pretty good day generally."

Didn't The Caveman have to get a refereeing qualification as part of a "punishment" too? I'd love to see him ref a proper international...

@APV1 - stop that, you keep saying things I agree with!

Yes, Glenn Jackson "normally" is outstanding in the games where I see him either ref or touch judge.

I especially like his refusal to give knock ons when the ball is ripped by an opposing player, whereas other refs just call knock on whenever the ball hits the deck.

If you think the refs are poor, then go a do a ref course and take up the whistle. Time and again refs are subject to 'maing the wrong calls' and from 'stopping teams from winning because of decisions'. As a force supporter I have a myriad of experience in this department when I have my cycloptic view point of only wanting decisions to go my team's way. It hasnt done me much good but I have learnt to better understand that you can only see so much with a pair of eyes and not 16 cameras.

The other option is that you can just grow up and take what is there BigNoel

Best ref on the circuit?

Glen Jackson. By a country mile.

Bignoel - Steve Walsh has his odd days off and can be arrogant and prickly at times but you have so many refs in the NH who act like they are the most important person on the park, every game. Hardly a minute goes by before they blast on the whistle. It would be great if NH refs stayed out of the SH (fat chance)- most have little feeling for the type of game played there, especially in Aus / NZ.

@bignoel, and your qualifications for making this judgement are what exactly?

I hate to talk about conspiracy theories, but I think he's simply complying with a pre-written script. The trends and decisions made by these paid professionals cannot simply be due to human error. In any other profession, you'd simply be fired... Just my opinion.

Excellent. Wind him up and then let him loose on England - I am assuming that under the all powerful law of sod this begger will be taking charge of England v Italy? I will revise down my winning margin bet accordingly.

bignoel, I suspect the French (and the Waratahs) might disagree with that call.

And yet this joker - who was kicked out of his own country's refereeing fraternity, is coming over to ref in the Six Nations. What a joke. He is comfortably the worst "professional" referee in the world - and that is a hotly contested title!!!
