Ramage, you might be right about the board. I think some people have got ahead of themselves, imagining that they are in a trading environment like professional soccer. Well, we haven't got there yet, and roots are still important to any New Zealand rugby team.

The Canes also have a fairly new chief executive, James Te Puni, and I cannot say I am impressed by him. He oozes complacency every time he appears on TV.

@ sandal why doesn't Hammett accept a superannuation payment now rather than waiting for the inevitable sacking next year. Hammett was a poor appointment and the Hurricans Board who made that appointment nmust hang their heads in shame. It is inevitable what will happen as the man is insecure. However the poor Hurricanes' supporters have to put up with this guy and his lack of man management for another year. Remember the last placed Rabbles not only defeated the Hammett coached Hurricanes they thrashed them.

So Hammett has lost another one. It just gets worse and worse.

For most people it is their home and their team environment that matter most. The fact that Cruden would leave home and team to follow a former coach says a lot about the atmosphere at the Canes under Hammett.

I know little about Barrett, and nothing about Hobbs; but Kirkpatrick, who has understudied Cruden this year, is clearly not Super XV class. Hammett, however, appears to think he is.

It is curious that Hammett should cite three first-fives playing in the Hurricanes region. He has shown little loyalty to star players from this region. He appears to think they can clear off and play for someone else. Well, why doesn't he buy himself a star first-five from somewhere else? Not so easy trading players, is it ...
