Joubert head and shoulders above all others? Are you serious? Did anyone watch him in the world cup final? Apart from that game he has been good in the last two years. All the pompous people saying get over it should ask the French players how they feel. The rule book needs to be redrafted- why were so many ELVs discarded and more to the point why did the northern hemisphere not even trial them? Lets take the referee out of the equation by making the game easier to referee. They are clueless at scrum time, allow a mess at the breakdown and yes i have been a ref in over 120 games myself before their defenders pile in and make excuses.

Joubert is by far head and shoulders above all the others as far as refereeing is concerned many of the comments made about poor refereeing are made by arm chair critics who have never run onto any field and refereed any game of rugby in their life. These people sit behind their computers and make wild statements usually based on Nationality and how decisions apparently benefited the team their team played against. There are just better referees than others and any referee has days where he could be better we accept it in players and should learn to accept that with some extremely complex rules in rugby referees will always struggle to fully interpret the laws to please everyone. Mainly because some can never be pleased.

this guy just has to be joking, the WC was actually cheapened by the state of reffing and lost a lot of supporters .He should have used the opportunity to start with a clean slate, now it appears to be more of the same in the future?

I thought the refereeing was very substandard during WC, left a bad taste that hasn't gone away. Love the sport but the general performance has made me more cynical.

Why is Steve Walsh in there? Bad referee who doesn't get on well with players. Also, what's the point of getting a referee from that far away when their are better available nearby.

Let's hope that the refs will be like children: seen but not heard.

O'Brien really is a piece of work. He sure as hell does not walk the talk. With him in charge it will be tough to get anybody wanting to be a ref for a while. Hope the IRB cleans up the entire issue of Laws and interpritation. Today the game is so fast it is tough for a ref to be on the spot and make the right calls consistantly. Either change the laws so that the ref does not have to have a debate with himself and his partners, IE Tip tackle. He does not have time to figure out if it was intentional or accidental and if the individual is a good guy or a bad guy, so do I give him a yellow or red? Keep it simple. Tip Tackle = Yellow card. No and, if's or but's. The game has to be consistantly consistant, not consistantly inconsistant!!!

Referees will get criticized whatever they do.

Just look at the reaction to Warburton's correct sending off in the semi-final by some parts of the UK media.

The IRB should have rewarded Alain Rolland with the final because he 's the referee with and balls to make tough calls in big games.

Would loved to see him given a Cardiff game!

I'm not a fan of Lawrence but I don't think the QF was his worst display either. He missed a couple of breakdown infringements but got some big calls (forward passes) correct.

Just seems easier and more fashionable to blame the ref these days
