One thing that is remembered about this WC is how you were boasting so much that Aus were going to win.

@ trinats... and that the Wobblies can only win in UK?, Ringinland in their former penal colony? Or maybe geography has nothing to do with it? You really shouldn't be slagging the ref's too much, either, after all I hear that one of "ours" kept your lot in the Cup an extra week - haven't heard too much from you about what happened at the end of that week, though...

@Trinants - I sense a touch of annoyance at NZ domination of rugby. True they haven't won as many world cups as their performance over all games suggests they should. No-one can genuinely argue that over the whole of this world cup, that they weren't the best team, by a good bit?!
Hats of to France, they did very well in a final that they were lucky to get to, but they never looked the better team, and were lucky to be in the game at half time.
You are right though that the RWC will be remembered for some awful refereeing. It was very pleasing to hear Jonathan Davies (probably the best commentator in world rugby), indicating that tackles almost been policed out of the game. It really is time for those that don't like rugby or physical contact to set up a different game for themselves.
Well done NZ!

@ Trinats... the same record books will record that England in '91, Wales in '99, Australia in '03 & France in '07 failed to win their home Cups, proving once and for all... well, not much, really, except perhaps that they weren't the best team at that tournament therefore didn't win them?

@Dingbat32 - What? Are you seriously saying they weren't the best team in the competition????? Lets have a laugh and hear who you thought was better - England perhaps lol? The fact is that NZ have been the best team in the world for most of the time since they first won the competition. Just look at the win v loss ratio!
If they have been telling people they are the best team that is a different matter. I can't see any mention of that in my first comment, so I'm afraid your comments are at best baffling.

makemehappy- are you trying to be funny? NZ have spent the last 20 years telling us how they "deserve" to be world champions despite their inability to front up.

JeanLucJoinel before you go on about any disgrace and whine on and on about the French loss just stand up and admit the only person that the word disgrace can be levelled at is your own filthy dirty eye gouger Rougerie. You go on about so called cheating and alleged misdemeanours all within your own warped version of events and because the referee did not intervene as you wanted because he saw it differently you villify him. Funny that none of his assistant referees who were on the touchlines felt it necessary to interfere and pull a flag to alert the referee to all this alleged cheating. Why? It is all in your fertile imagination. if it did happen then like the incident of eye gouging by that filthy French player went unnoticed by the officials not because as you say they deliberately ignored it. Yet you try to trash the name of a very good referee, Tell me Luc what experience have you had of refereeing any grade of rugby ? Please tell me what you think of Rougerie's actions do you want to tell us what a dirty player he is when he does this to a fellow player. No Luc you are a windbag ready to pull down and castigate excellent players and referees because you are so full of hatred. Is this because we defeated you or because we caught your arrogant spies who invaded our country and killed a man? One more thing Luc RWC 2011 Champions are New Zealand, Viva Aotearoa.

Cant believe that some are still on about who should have won the world cup lol! Obviously NZ were the best team, and obviously this forum is about the present and the future. Nice to see some people have commented on the future for NZ - well done to them! Any news of players coming through for the next batch of u20 players out there?

""Had the world cup not been in NZ or they had northern refs they would have not made it past the QF.""
Really? Argentina were the better team? Nigel Owens isn't from the northern hemisphere?
God knows what nonsense is going to get written about this world cup over the next few years. If it continues at this rate it will be quite fabulous, quite astonishing.

PR says:
1. ""As has almost always been the case, New Zealand started the tournament as favourites, but for the first time in 24 years they were able to live up to their billing and claim their second Rugby World Cup title""
There are two pieces of nonsense in this quote. One is in the numbers. The number 24 is in no way relevant. Twenty-four years ago was 1987. NZ were crowned world champions that year, a title they held for four years without having to defend it, or, for that matter, being able to win another one. Did PR get lost counting up to four in the years before 1991, during which NZ enjoyed probably more success than any other cup champions? Or in counting up to 20 in the years since 1991 when, yes, NZ did lose the cup? But where does 24 come from?
I may sound like a stuck record on this subject, but it is quite apparent that no one at PR can count. God help us if PR were ever placed in charge of the world's scoreboards.
The other piece of nonsense is the suggestion that the All Blacks have "almost always" had top billing. Debatable of 1991 (Australia or NZ?), certainly not true of 1995 (Australia), highly debatable of 1999 (Australia) and debatable of 2003 (England). That leaves just 2007 and 2011.

@Trinuts once again you miss the point and only show yourself as being a thick plank. I used to think you deliberately misinterpreted facts or spun them to suit your argument but now realise that you really lack the intelligence to differentiate. So I will try to explain in small words what I was saying. It does not matter where the RWC games are played in those years. The fact is that in those years when you look at the programmes and the history books it will still say RWC 2011 NZ Champions. Surely even a person who comes from a state where they spell BEER, XXXX can understand that.

Carpelone thanks for your post I did reply to you on another post but it did not make it past the editor. Thanks for your comments. My father came to NZ for a better life from Scotland, he was a Scot and he supported them in NZ when they toured. I was born in NZ and as far as I am concerned am a kiwi and a very proud one.
I too am interested in the future of NZ and also like jakedamus have noted some of the younger players who have cropped up and will follow their progress with interest. However I was also impressed with the junior English team and the style of rugby they played at their junior RWC. So England have a number of problems to sort in the coming months. If they do it they will have to be watched because they have enormous resources. South Africa, their fans instead of bleating about conspiracies and presenting a siege mentality to the world should be getting their own organisation in control. Instead of blaming every one else with the nonsense we read on here go get your own house in order you have enormous potential in the Republic harness it and you will be hard to beat. NZ is a small country and a weak economy I fear that despite the fact we punch above our weight in terms of players and coaching personnel, resources especially financial could be our downfall. It is no wonder the Sanzar nations wish to have a better financial outcome during RWC year.

@jakedamuss,
I am quite aware of what QC has done, and did acknowledge that he is an idiot, but that does not excuse the nonsense he had to endure. This is rugby! As an example, Campese was an idiot, but it was always about the rugby, not death threats and abuse.
As for your list of players, I am so glad you are excited but there is talent outside NZ you know??? Anyone would think you are an insular island in the ass end of nowhere.

@ carpelone... we've won all 4 U20 world titles, the drain of players to UK/Fra & Japan has slowed to a trickle so I guess we'll replace the players you list with young blokes coming through the ranks - schools rugby, NZ U20, ITM Cup, S15 - can't tell you player-for-player who the new guys will be but believe me, they'll be ready & raring to go when their opportunity comes along.
The only danger is Hansen "doing a Wyllie" (or PdV) & trying to nurse aging players through to '15 rather than letting them go over the next 2 - 3 seasons. I can't see that happening, however - expect to see a slightly different AB squad in each 4N & each time they go North & conquer.

@dingbat, quade cooper had kneed king richie in the head before the wc in the game that ozzie won in suncorp, he dug his own hole and buried himself in it. I'm thinking that if the AB's are coached and managed well ( which I put money on that they will be) theyll be much better by the time the next wc comes around. Weve got ourselves a little rugby freak factory going on at the moment. Sam Cane, Tyler Bleyendaal, Aaron Cruden, Matt Todd, Luke Braid, Tawera Kerr Barlow and Gareth Anscombe are all going to be absolute masters, but then again, dont forget Lima Sopoaga, Tom Taylor, Luke Whitelock, Maritino Nemani, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Aaron Smith, ROBBIE FRUEAN, etc etc. These guys would already be capped in any other country but they ca barely get a game of S15 until now. Can't wait to see the next 4 years

Yet again some seem to have forgotten what this sort of thread is about. This is about the present and the future, so let's see if some of us can get it back on track!
There is no doubt that the procession of U20 victories will mean that NZ will remain favourites for the world cup (or at worst second favourites) for around 12 years.
There appears to be some very impressive back-row forwards coming through (Braid, and all those in the U20's).
The AB's really do need to pick a wing to play on the wing though!
Prop's still aren't right. Hayman's replacement it yet to arrive.
At scrum half they don't know who their best player is - a true world class player here is definitely a must.
Easily the best team in the world at the moment though. In a 10 match series (home and away), there is no chance of any team doing better than a 6v4 loss (more likely 7v3).
I do fancy SA to pick up significantly though - especially now the idiot at the top has gone!
