@Rosbif - Debaty has looked very good around the park when I have seen him, carries hard, good hands etc. Don't know what his fitness is like though, haven't seen him play a full game. Scrummed well against Ulster recently but I don't know how he will stand up at international level

....well, if the ref acts impartially and the opposition are not allowed to infringe, injure, and play off-side with impunity, perhaps the french number 13 will behave himself !

Not trying to be funny, but looking at the French No. 13 it,s clear that

Italy needs to order 22 pairs of heavy duty safety glasses asap....

cuw31, you're right re the kilos!! Debaty is a kind of super-sized version of Owen Franks. At 6ft 3 and 122 kg, he's almost Andrew Sheridan-esque (although being tall is not really good news). Castro is 6ft 2 and 119 kg, so the match up is OK height-wise. Then it's all about technique, help from Servat, and the guys behind......

PS haven't really seen how mobile Debaty is around the park (which is where Franks in particular is freakishly good). Or if he has good hands (which lets down Poux imo)? Maybe makemehappy, you have seen him and have a better view? Or any clermont fans out there?

Guess we'll find out on saturday......

I must admit I have seen Debaty having some awful scrummaging games - so we will see what he is made of soon!

Formidable team definatly going to be the team to beat this year or they could get a slam .Only hope of stopping it if France play is Wales in Cardiff and even then i feel France would win .Lets hope they still have the consistancy problem and a willingness to give up if your english -irish -welsh scottish and italian lol

@neXus6: Rougerie is fairly ok at center. And he is used to play why Fofana. So that is a good choice imo. Much better choice than Marty anyway !

@ neXus6. PSA has spoken in detail to the French press about the thinking behind all his selections, in a surprisingly open and transparent way, including the whole Barcella Ducalcon Debaty debate. I agree Barcella was outstanding 2 years ago, but he's not really regained those heights imo. Maybe Debaty impressed most at training?

neXus6 says...

Much of Le Goret's selections make sense (unlike his predecessor) but something has gone badly wrong in the propping dept. Debaty is 3rd choice at ASM and the hammerings he took in the scrum against both Leicester and Ulster showed why.

Leaving Barcella out is just bizarre. A man who was arguably the best in the world 2 years back is still a better choice than Debaty even if he was playing on one leg.

Rougerie...... why? Why? WHYYYYYYYYY?

I bet Castro would have preferred (and might have been expecting) to see Poux opposite him (wtih Maestri and Hari behind him). Instead he's got Debaty to battle with, who did pretty well in the Clermont vs Tigers games. And Debaty has Nallet on the right side of 2nd row to back him up (probably the best scrummager other than Millo-Chulski, who's injured). And Picamoles adds further weight. Poux can come off the bench and play either side. So can Maestri. And Hari can play 6, 7 or 8. Smart move by PSA methinks.

I like the backs too. Nice balance and combinations everywhere. Even Yach is coming into some form again. Just hope it doesn't snow...

Allez !!!

I think it will be the six nations title for theis lot. Perhaps not the grand slam with Wales away though.

This coach is a genius - he knows that you play people in their normal positions! Or did I mean that the last guy was a nutter?

How novel a proper first 5/8th with a recognised one on the bench too!! I also detect method behind the selections...amazing...i see PSA has not gone for the lievremont way of picking 22 random players throwing there names up in the air and then picking them where they fall : p

Seriously this looks a very strong french team, nice to see debaty, malzieu and fofana rewarded for great form
