l'll never forget two bouncers dragging him out of a club on Swansea's Kingsway as the little wizard yelled in that lilting squeak "Don't you know who I am?"

Funny thing is, watching him for Wales for the last two years, I can see how they didn't recognise him. Back to scrum half Shane, you're holding up players who deserve their place.

was not a Wales fan until Shane Williams was unleashed....love watching him play. Beat the Ozzies....if not in December, then in 2013. Hope he changes his mind!

Thats's sad :( Judging by his form in the World cup he still has another year left in him at least. I always greatly admired Shane Williams, definately deserves his place as one of the great wingers of the modern era. Scarily talented.

@Coronach - Yea you're right. Imagine what his strike rate might have been on the end of an AB's backline. I'm not disrespecting Wales but going on stats NZ score the most points & win the most games.

Yes his scoring rate is impressive when compared to Campese and the many All black considering he played less games for a dominant team.

Not sure if I would rate Williams as the best winger (well certainly one of the best) but more than any other player he is a reason to watch rugby.

But why would Ohata be discounted, he was also <50% on the winning side, suggesting he played most of his matches against teams stronger than his own team and as such relatively stronger teams than Campese.

Well it was bound to happen, but my god what a player and what an ambassador for the game. He has lit up the rugby world and scored tries that looked impossible to pull off. His dedication and professionalism have been as impressive as his endeavours on the field and we are going to miss him a great deal. I for one will be watching with a lump in my throat.

Just a quick thought - wouldn't it be great if Martin Williams was picked on the bench and came on for his 100th cap. He has been a huge servant to the welsh game and deserves a proper send off for all that he has given to the game. Not one for sentiment, but this is surely a special case.

some stats

57 tries for Wales in 86 matches, plus 2 for Lions (4 matches)

The next highest on the Wales list is Gareth Thomas (40).

3rd on top try-scorers list (or second if Ohata is discounted however he is recognised as #1 on 69, Campese on 64), and all the more impressive considering he has only been on the winning side 49% of the time, so hasn't had an easy ride.

NOoooo! Shane! All you need is 6 more tries to beat Campese. Don't do it man! Imagine if you get 2 tries in this last game. Then you only need 4 more.
