All Blacks flank cited

Adam Thomson All Blacks v Ireland 2012

In hot water: Adam Thomson

All Blacks flanker Adam Thomson has been cited for stamping on Scotland lock Alasdair Strokosch during Sunday's Test match at Murrayfield.

Thomson was sent to the sin-bin by referee Jerome Garces in the 43rd-minute on advice from touch judge Simon McDowell and will face a disciplinary hearing in London on Wednesday.

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson said after the game he believes Thomson should have been given a straight red card.

If suspended, Thomson could be sidelined for anything between three and eight weeks, ruling him out of Saturday's Test against Italy as well as the clashes with Wales and England.

My words were not threats. They were a response to an insult, just to put the things into perspective.

Luckily, judging from the posts further to one week ban Thomson got (I do not think it is a dirty player, but an affense like that had to be punished with a red card), there are more sensible supporters from New Zealand.

Next time, please weigh your word before posting.

hehehe 7ton, sorry mon ami, it was an oblique reference to both Monty Python ("I'm Brian, and so is my wife") and the Spartacus movie to which it alludes, as well as playing fun with the fact that one of the other bloggers is also called Spartacus...... Boy, this stuff gets tricky before you know it!!

Good luck vs Italy. Let's hope it's nice and sunny and the pitch is firm :-)

Spartacus or Rosbiff who ever you are.

Can you explain how McCaw should have been penalised for what you claim was a blatant infringement at that breakdown.

C'mon back things up for a change

@carpelone, your post was false and stated a clear lie. Any person with intellect can see that from the video which removes the ambiguity of your words. Ramage made no comment on Heaslip so mentioning him had nothing to do with the original post aside betraying your own bias.

Cowardice is an interesting accusation from someone sitting behind a keyboard as we all are. I have no idea about your personal bravery but my suspicions are that in person, you neither would or could enact your aforementioned threats.

You intrepid keyboard warriors. In person, I would make you eat your words (and the keyboard).

Cowards.

Try to argument the differences instead, if your limited brains provides enough grey matter for this challenging task.

By the way, my post was a compliment to the well balanced and fair post of ramage.

Well done, mate.

Frustrated half-stamp vs two knee shots to the head. You're either blind, one-eyed or stupid.

@ ramage

Happy to read your post. He did exactly what Heaslip did couple of years ago to McCaw. He got red carded.

StunTheMullet says...

@ Frank81 - Gnasher Grewcock was going around biting and kneeing people (though the kneeing was yellow card worthy)....

Anyhow, Adam Thompson should be suspended but it was in the dumb category compared to the malicious injury intent on Sir Richie by the roll of recent boofheads including Greyling, Higgenarse, Powell, Hartley and Gougerie.

Most of whom didn't receive a penalty or yellow card or were even cited.

Your wife is a very intelligent lady.

I don't think there are any Kiwi's in denial, you don't touch the head. I think 6-8 weeks is a bit harsh given some of the most recent suspensions.

@jontheref - I can't agree. If he saw the foot movement at all, he would have seen it on the players head. What else could he have seen - him not make contact with anything? If the latter, then there wouldn't have been a penalty surely, let alone a card.

Rosbif says...

....for any NZers flirting with denial, just for fun, imagine swapping the shirt colours and changing the venue to Eden Park, and ask yourself how you would feel about Strokosh putting his foot on, say, McCaw's head?

Still think it's not a red and an automatic 4-6 week ban?

@APV1, oh, and by the way, just for good measure, I do represent the NH, every single last one of you..... in fact I'm Spartacus, and so is my wife!! (although she thinks I'm nuts)

Ramage says...

There is just o excuse for the action of Thompson he may have been frustrated with the player killing the ball but there is no doubt in my mind it was a yellow card. At first I thought hello what is going on here? then he was sinbinned and I thought oh hang another over reaction. However when the camera caught his action there was no doubt in my mind he should have been red carded and the assistant was generous in only saying yellow. No matter how we try to put a spin on it guys he was clearly wrong and should be penalised accordingly. This will be the last test he plays for NZ. the head is sacrosanct and should not in anyway be touched raked or stomped by any boot.

Finally I know Im right because the old plodder georgesmith believes Thompson should be let off.

@trader2 lol yes even Ritchie gets the blame but did you notice the so called blatent infringement was not elaborated on. Typical nonsense from an armchair supporter who sits there and of course knows better than anyone else that their prejudicial eye is far more sharper than all the officials. Geez these prats take the can. So Spartacus what was the blatent infringement did your one eye see?

Posted 14:24 13th November 2012

Trader2 says...

Spartacus

Looked up the rulebook under "blatant infringement" couldn't find it. Poor old AT he cannot even be cited by himself without it being Ritchie's fault.

jontheref says...

If McDowell had seen what the cameras showed, I suspect he would have said red.

He saw use of feet on a player.

From his angle, he could not see the head was targeted.

Again, Hansen,s on screen reaction said it all.

Brain fart, but I suspect he will miss the rest of the tour.

How can one official indicate a yellow card and yet this is merited as a citing issue - ridiculous!

Spartacus says...

@Ferdie - never mind what the experienced touch judge did (lots of refs make mistakes!) - it was a straight red. A red card would have affected the game. As part of the process, the touch judge should have his error of judgement addressed.

As an aside, at the very same breakdown McCaw should have been penalised for blatant infringement. That was missed as well!
