not sure what they are thinking anymore. ford wins it last year over cane, perenara and barrett and now this? its not even the best players in the tournament. im sorry JayStarr but the best player in the tournament is obviously liam gill followed by chris sautia but as australia failed miserably i guess they cant be chosen. the south african centres were good and there were some awesome french backs

JJ Hanrahan should be O'Gara's understudy for Munster next year, a superb player way better than Ian Keatley IMO.

@ ABlack
Not arrogant or paranoid much are you?
'The shortlist represents the voting of team managers, match officials and media at the tournament.'
Serfontein, excellent.
Hanrahan, am excited to see where he can go. Dont be so hasty lads, let him get this experience, how many talents have we failed to transition, Ruddock was brought in to do a job, we should let him have the time to get these guys used to and ready for success! Hmm Hanrahan 10 Sexton 12, theres a future thought to relish

have watched a few games - can't say there has been any stand-out NZ player for me, competent team but this year no 'star' that I'd pick to go on to greater things. Still think not sending TJ Perenara was a mistake, he was still age-eligible, but told effectively he didn't have the maturity for ABs.
No idea of his name, but thought one of the Argentine midfielders may have made this list, they've done well in the tournament.

@Tombomb / NHsaints
Never gonna happen with Kidney but it would be great to see him for Ireland. Some young lads are exactly what we need. Maybe in 2013...

Get Hanrahan a full test cap...he's more than good enough and age isn't a problem when you've got the maturity that he has in his game...Ireland need to be doing this with players like hanrahan like england have been doing with other talents (Farrel, Wilkinson and Wade to name but a few).

As a Kiwi have to admit our boys are not the calibre of previous teams and I have always seen stand outs in the past, sad to say, but I do congratulate those chosen as deserved nominees..........I truly hope this isn't a reflection of future AllBlack teams.

People on this site trying to tell me that jj hanrahan is too young to be considered for the full irish team are morons we need to fast track exceptional talent not wait till there first choice at there province if I were the coach of Ireland I would have brought him to nz along whit ian Henderson,graig gilroy Luke McGrath to experience the international setups. If your good enough your old enough (excuse my grammar writen on phone)

Jan Serfontein all the way. Just brilliant... The most talented, complete player with the brightest future I've seen at this year's tournament.
Such a shame the Bulls have already stolen him (seriously - can they start developing their own?)

No kiwis... Oh well they can show the IRB the folly of their nominee slection criteria in the Final.(its not really a "nominee" as such, as the IRB must have just picked the 3 players themselves???).
Is a bit farcical when George Ford won it last year when he wasnt anywhere near the most influential player in the tourney(nor the best)
